Hold onto your blockchain wallets and AI chatbots, folks! A new survey reveals that 45% of Americans think investing in cryptocurrency is riskier than trusting a used car salesman, while 44% believe AI is developing faster than a Mel Brooks punchline. Oy vey!
This leaves candidates swimming in crypto and AI super PAC cash in a pickle bigger than a New York deli sandwich.
Industry Spending Meets Voter Skepticism… Or Is It Just Common Sense?
The poll also found that nearly 50% of respondents trust traditional banks more than crypto platforms. (Shocker! Turns out people prefer institutions that don’t vanish overnight like a magician’s rabbit.) Plus, two-thirds want lawmakers to slap AI with regulations tighter than a tailor’s measuring tape.
Close to half think AI will steal jobs faster than a pickpocket at a crowded carnival. And a 43% plurality says its risks outweigh its rewards-because who needs robots taking over when we’ve got perfectly good humans to blame for everything?

Meanwhile, Fairshake-the pro-crypto super PAC funded by Coinbase, Andreessen Horowitz, and Ripple Labs-has dropped $28 million on 2026 primaries, according to Politico. And Leading the Future, the pro-AI PAC, has raised over $75 million since last August. That’s enough to buy a small country… or at least a really nice yacht.
“The results are like a pie in the face for these industries as their super PACs try to turn cash into clout. These groups are becoming the political equivalent of a bull in a china shop-spending like there’s no tomorrow and stepping on everyone’s toes,” the report quipped.
The resistance to these PACs might come from the fact that 41% of poll respondents think special interest groups have more power than a dictator with a megaphone. Only 23% say their role is balanced, while 12% think they’re as influential as a goldfish in a shark tank.
“Skepticism of these industries could turn into voter backlash faster than you can say ‘Spaceballs,’” Politico joked. “Americans might just be fed up with all the spending.”
In hypothetical matchups, voters were less likely to support candidates backed by groups pushing looser AI regulations than those calling for tighter rules. (Because who wants Skynet running the show?) They also showed stronger support for groups advocating climate policy-because saving the planet is apparently more popular than robots taking over.
Whether this skepticism turns into actual votes remains to be seen. But one thing’s for sure: this election season is shaping up to be more dramatic than a Mel Brooks movie marathon.
These findings come from the Politico Poll, conducted by Public First. They surveyed 2,035 American adults between April 11 and 14. The margin of error is ±2.2 percentage points, so take it with a grain of salt… or a whole shaker.
