The One Show’s Alex Jones combats “mum guilt” in special day with son
As a gamer with a busy life juggling work and family, I can definitely relate to Alex Jones’ feelings of “mum guilt.” It’s a feeling that many working parents share, no matter what their profession is. The difference is, we don’t usually get to show our kids where we work on special days!
Alex Jones from ‘The One Show’ spent a memorable day with her son this past week, confessing that she often grapples with feelings of “mother’s guilt” because of her hectic work schedule.
The host posted on Instagram a heartwarming clip of her little boy, Teddy, having a unique backstage tour at the studio of The One Show, while she prepared for another program.
In Alex’s post, he expressed, “For a long time now, he’s been wanting to visit and I believe it’s essential that he visualizes where I am during night hours since I don’t get to put him to bed frequently. Yesterday, however, was particularly memorable.” The mom guilt is indeed genuine, but yesterday was exceptional.
In the comments beneath the post, I was swift to echo sentiments that Alex is truly inspiring her kids with her actions.
“One fan said, ‘Alex, you’re doing fantastically well! Remember, even though you may struggle with mom guilt, you’re simultaneously setting a great example as a professional working woman for your kids!’
As a fellow admirer, I can’t help but echo their sentiments. “Many mothers work too, Alex,” I’d say. “I believe this will serve as an incredible inspiration for him. After all, witnessing a parent thrive in their professional life can be more motivating than anything else.” And let me add, even though there might be moments of guilt, it’s truly remarkable for children to see both Mums and Dads achieving success beyond the confines of our homes.
Back in August, Alex addressed her future on The One Show and said that “longevity is key” for her.
The longtime TV personality, who has graced the BBC program since 2010, went on to say, “Often people ask me, ‘What’s your next move? Aren’t you interested in a major entertainment show?’ My response is usually: ‘Pardon my confusion?’ I’m truly content.
“All new projects are exciting and a new challenge but actually it would be really amiss of anybody to overlook the bread and butter. All the extra bits are really fun and exciting but actually for me longevity is key. I want to be there. Being the main breadwinner, I want to be able to provide security for the children.”
The One Show airs on weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
