Star Trek: Strange New Worlds should finally give one character more depth
As a lifelong Star Trek fan who’s witnessed the highs and lows of this iconic franchise, I can confidently say that Strange New Worlds is the show that’s “doing right” by Star Trek. It’s not just the best of the new series; it’s up there with the classics!
As a devoted Star Trek fan, I can confidently say that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds stands out as the ideal “do what’s right” series. It’s the show that has managed to rectify many pitfalls that the franchise has stumbled into over time. With much of the Nu Trek leaving a sense of disappointment, Strange New Worlds is the series that truly hit the mark. Although there are parts of the show I’d like to see improved, it’s hands down the best of the new series.
As a die-hard fan, let me tell you, Strange New Worlds stands tall among the franchise’s finest productions. In essence, it’s the show that’s faithfully carrying on the legacy of the Nu Trek series. It’s a breath of fresh air, reminding us that Star Trek can still be made brilliantly in today’s era.
Additionally, its position in the narrative sequence provides an opportunity for it to address and rectify problems that might have arisen in the initial series and early movies. This includes enriching character development, delving deeper into other alien species, or even clarifying plot inconsistencies.
Previously, they’ve delved into the Gorn’s storyline and suggested there might be more focus on Sybock. We have detailed backstories for characters like Khan Noonien Singh, the Kirk brothers, and others. Yet, a character who was significant in the films but has been minimally explored beyond only two movies is Captain Kirk’s love interest, Carol Marcus, who has had limited screen time outside of these films.
In Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek: Into Darkness, Marcus was portrayed as the woman with whom Captain Kirk had a son and the woman he developed feelings for, respectively. Beyond being associated with Kirk, not much else has been revealed about Marcus in these films.
In the potential new series, Strange New Worlds, there’s an opportunity to delve deeper into her character and potentially establish a professional connection with Dr. M’Benga or Captain Pike. It would be beneficial to expand on her character more extensively since she has primarily been featured in minor roles in just two films.
I’m really excited about the possibility of seeing a deeper exploration of the characters in Season 4 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Here’s hoping!
