15% more for a Mickey beignet? Sticker shock hits Disneyland customers over food price increases

This month, Disneyland Resort—including both of its Anaheim theme parks and its hotels—increased prices on over 800 different food and beverage items. The changes happened across 178 dining spots, but were announced without a lot of fanfare.

It’s no surprise that prices at Disneyland keep going up. However, many visitors are frustrated by how much food costs this summer. This is happening even though Disney is trying to attract more local residents with discounted tickets, as fewer international tourists are currently visiting its U.S. theme parks.

Prices for some snacks and items at Disneyland increased slightly, by just a percentage point or two. However, others saw much larger jumps, up to 25%. On average, prices went up around 8%, or about 62 cents per item, according to Mickey Visit, a website that monitors price changes at the parks. Disneyland has confirmed these price increases.

Theme Park IQ, a site that tracks trends at parks, found that snack and bakery item prices increased by some of the biggest percentages.

Popcorn now costs $7 per serving, an increase from its previous price of $6.50. A three-pack of Mickey beignets is now $7.49, which is 15.4% more than the previous price of $6.49.

The classic churro was not unscathed, with 50 cents added to the price tag.

Disney’s theme parks brought in more revenue and saw a small increase in profits during the company’s latest financial quarter, which ended in March, according to results released Wednesday.

One Reddit user pointed out that despite everything dividing people these days, we can all agree on some things – like the fact that $6.25 is way too much to pay for a churro.

The butter croissant led the baked goods pack, with a 25% increase from $4.79 to $5.99.

The price of the wedge salad at Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta in Disney California Adventure increased by over 20%, going from $11.99 to $14.79, similar to a recent price increase for croissants.

Prices for sodas and other cold drinks went up just a little, but coffee and hot drinks experienced a noticeable price increase of around 13%, according to Theme Parks IQ.

According to a Disney representative, their pricing is comparable to similar theme parks. They also stated that many food options at Disney are actually cheaper than those found at parks like Legoland, Universal Studios Hollywood, and Knott’s Berry Farm.

To help attract young families, the spokesperson said that kids meal prices have not risen.

For $5.99, families can now enjoy a kids meal near the new “Bluey” musical experience. Available at the Troubadour Tavern, the meal includes a small hot dog, a Cutie orange, and a choice of milk or water. “Bluey” is an animated show featuring a blue puppy and her sister, Bingo.

Earlier this year, Disney’s Thomas Mazloum explained that because over half of Disneyland’s visitors usually come from California, the park has been able to lessen the impact of fewer international tourists.

Earlier this year, the company broadened its special offers – originally just for Southern Californians – to include all residents of California, focusing specifically on attracting customers from that group.

The park is looking for ways to make visits more affordable and recently started offering $59 tickets for nighttime access during the summer. These tickets were very popular and sold out quickly – in under a week.
