Former NRL star Alex McKinnon takes his new relationship to new heights with a sweet tattoo

Alex McKinnon has professed his love for his new girlfriend Lilly Malone with a new tattoo.
On Friday, the ex-NRL star who’s also a quadriplegic, aged 32, along with his young partner, 22, each posted a monochrome picture of their recent tattoo on their respective Instagram Stories.
On Alex’s arm, there’s a beautifully crafted image of Lilly’s lips and a startling tattoo, which is situated right over a sketch of a chili pepper.
Captioning the sweet snap, Lilly confirmed that they were, indeed, her lips.
In her post, Lily expressed that ‘@alexmckinnon’s newest creation reminded her of lips, as she added a lip emoji to convey the affectionate message.
Back in March, Alex made his relationship with Lily public for the first time by posting a loving photo on both their Instagram accounts.
He posted the picture of them both dressed in pink at Lily’s 22nd birthday party just hours before the NRL season opener kicked off in las Vegas.
A short while after, Lily, currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work at the University of Newcastle, posted McKinnon for the first time on her personal Instagram account, accompanied by a heart emoji.
Alex’s new romance comes two years after splitting with ex wife Teigan Power.
The heartwarming tale of Alex and Teigan’s love was felt across Australia as she vowed to stay with the NRL player after he suffered a spinal injury during a three-player tackle while playing for the Newcastle Knights on March 24, 2014.
At the age of 22, he had surgeries that joined his C4 and C5 vertebrae together. He then remained unconscious for five days before becoming confined to a wheelchair as a result.
Upon waking up the following day, I was faced with the devastating revelation from the medical professionals that my chances of regaining the ability to walk were slim, and I might have to live as a quadriplegic indefinitely.
His girlfriend, who was only 20 at the time, vowed to support him throughout his recovery.
2018 marked the year I was brought into existence through IVF, a precious baby girl named Harriet Ann, to my loving parents. In 2021, the joy multiplied as they welcomed twin daughters, Audrey and Violet, into their family. However, our family structure shifted in 2022 following a separation.
Speaking to News Corp in March, Alex said that he is open to welcoming more children into his life.
In times when you experience many challenges and changes in your surroundings, it becomes clear that your family is the most valuable support system you possess. This was expressed by McKinnon.
Over the past two and a half years, experiencing a divorce, losing my extended family connection, and being solo for an extended time, has given me newfound appreciation for the importance of family and surrounding myself with loved ones.
Among all, the three girls have given me the greatest happiness throughout my life. Therefore, it seems hard for me to imagine that adding more would not make things even better.
The prominent NRL player mentioned that he remains friendly with his former spouse, who is now in a relationship with Jake Nelson.
‘Teigan was by my side through a really tough period in my life,’ he told the publication.
‘We’re still really good friends.
Over the course of these past ten years following my injury, it’s become clear that both people and circumstances have a way of transforming. My own self, her, and everyone else has experienced growth and change in that time.
