Survivor: Africa star Kim Johnson dead at 79 as winner Ethan Zohn pays emotional tribute: ‘A legacy of strength’
As a follower who has admired Survivor since its inception, I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Kim Johnson at the age of 79. Having watched her compete on the third season of Survivor: Africa back in 2001, I can attest to her indomitable spirit and unwavering determination.
Survivor: Africa star Kim Johnson has died aged 79.
Her daughter Kerry Johnson Tichi confirmed Johnson’s death to People.
Back in the groove of 2001, I found myself shining brightly in the third installment of that unforgettable television phenomenon, leaving my footprints just a step behind the ultimate victor, Ethan Zohn.
Kerry said: ‘Our mom leaves a legacy of strength, resilience, kindness and generosity.
1. “Until the very end, she donned her uniquely rosy-tinted spectacles. She was undeniably the most fabulous mother and grandmother anyone could ask for. Our hearts will yearn for her eternally.”

Zohn, age 50, paid an heartfelt homage to Johnson with these words: “Farewell, Kim Johnson. I’m grateful for having been able to call you my friend, and it was an honor to share the last tribal council with you.”
‘I will forever have that planters punch in your honor.’
1. At 56, Johnson, formerly a school teacher who had retired, emerged as the eldest woman to triumph in the Final Immunity Challenge and also became the eldest woman to make it to the Final Tribal Council.
