Capcom Has ‘Big Dreams’ For Marvel vs. Capcom and SNK vs. Capcom Series
As a long-time fan of the Marvel vs. Capcom series, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and disappointment with the latest news. On one hand, it’s incredible to hear that Capcom has “big dreams” for the franchise and is considering developing a new entry in the series. The thought of a potential Marvel vs. Capcom or SNK vs. Capcom game is enough to get any fighting game fan’s heart racing.
Although Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics is missing from Xbox (perhaps because Capcom found it unworthy to invest time and resources in implementing their MT Framework on Microsoft’s latest consoles), Capcom has expressed ambitious plans for the series, potentially leading to a new installment, which might eventually be released on Xbox as well.
According to Shuhei Matsumoto, Producer of Street Fighter 6 at Capcom, the development team harbors grand aspirations. They might be working on a new Marvel vs. Capcom title or even a collaboration with SNK for a fresh Capcom-themed game.
Matsumoto acknowledged that bringing new life to old titles or creating new ones requires a significant investment of “time and energy.” In the meantime, making these legacy games available to a modern audience serves as an interim solution. He expressed, “At least for now, we can introduce these series to you. We’re passionate about them, and we believe you might be too. Perhaps, as you grow more acquainted with these series, opportunities for bigger projects may arise in the future.”
As a dedicated gamer, I can share that implementing rollback netcode in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is an intriguing prospect, but it’s not set in stone yet. It all comes down to the right moment and figuring out what we can accomplish with careful planning and determination.
Capcom’s latest Marvel versus Capcom or SNK versus Capcom installment might take a significant amount of time to materialize. However, it’s reassuring that Capcom hasn’t neglected these popular series. The previous Marvel vs. Capcom game, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite (launched in 2017), received lukewarm reception. It’s about due for an update.
I’m excited about the upcoming release of Marvel vs. Capcom: Fighting Collection – Arcade Classics on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC this year. Fingers crossed that an Xbox edition will be developed in the future as well.
