I was really interested to hear what Demi Moore had to say at Cannes. She was talking about how Hollywood treats women, and while she acknowledged things have gotten better – she called the progress ‘significant’ – she also made it clear we still have a long way to go. It’s good to hear her be so honest about it!
A famous Hollywood star is joining the jury at this year’s film festival, along with acclaimed filmmakers and actors like Chloé Zhao, Stellan Skarsgård, Ruth Negga, Laura Wandel, Diego Céspedes, Isaach De Bankolé, Paul Laverty, and jury head Park Chan-wook.
During a press conference kicking off the festival, Moore was asked if Hollywood had truly changed, based on her own experiences. She replied that while significant changes have occurred, she isn’t sure if the industry has reached its goal, adding that it’s still evolving.

She began to explain further, then playfully stopped herself, saying, “I could say a lot more!” She finished with a laugh and a knowing glance, implying she wouldn’t elaborate further.
During the conference, a fellow journalist had previously questioned her about how Hollywood is both using and clashing with artificial intelligence.

That’s a complex issue. I believe that trying to fight something often just creates more conflict. It’s a natural reaction, but it doesn’t usually solve the problem, she explained.
Artificial intelligence is now a reality, and trying to oppose it would likely be a losing effort. Therefore, it’s more beneficial to explore how we can collaborate with and utilize AI instead.
Honestly, when asked if we’re really doing enough to support human artists, I just don’t have a good answer. If I had to guess, though, I’d say probably not. It feels like we could be doing more.

While AI has some appealing uses, there’s no need to worry about it replacing true art. Real art isn’t about technical skill; it comes from emotion and the human spirit.
This idea springs from the creativity within all of us – both those present and those who create daily – and represents something uniquely human that technology can’t replicate.
The Cannes Film Festival continues until May 23rd. Actress Demi Moore, who received widespread praise for her performance in The Substance this year, will soon star in the thriller Tyrant. She’ll be joined by Charlize Theron, Julia Garner, Paapa Essiedu, and Hudson Williams, known for his role in Heated Rivalry.
