The highly anticipated new anime from one of the world’s leading animation studios is coming this summer. The studio has just announced the project, which is completely original and will be released exclusively this season.

I’m so excited! Studio Ghibli just announced a brand new short film called Night in the Valley of Witches, and it’s coming this July! The catch is, you’ll have to visit Ghibli Park in Japan to see it – but honestly, that just makes me want to go even more!

Studio Ghibli Reveals First Look at New Anime Short Film With Exclusive Premiere

Studio Ghibli’s latest animated short, Night in the Valley of Witches, will debut on July 8, 2026, at the Cinema Orion inside Ghibli’s Grand Warehouse at Ghibli Park. It will be an exclusive premiere.

Akihiko Yamashita and Hayao Miyazaki will co-direct a new animated short. To mark the release of Night in the Valley of Witches, Miyazaki and Yamashita will appear at the premiere’s first showing to talk about the making of the film with the audience.

There are only 150 tickets available for the very first showing of Night in the Valley of Witches. You can buy tickets for this special event starting May 10th at 1:00 AM Eastern Time.

The Valley of Witches at Ghibli Park in Nagakute, Aichi, Japan, officially opened on March 16, 2024. On April 21st, the park announced a new short film set within the Valley of Witches, marking the first original animated short created by Studio Ghibli specifically for the park. They expressed hope that visitors would enjoy the new addition.

Studio Ghibli’s Valley of Witches Is Inspired by Howl’s Moving Castle, Kiki’s Delivery Service & More

Taking inspiration from the beloved Studio Ghibli film Kiki’s Delivery Service, Valley of Witches offers fun for the whole family, with rides, treats, and drinks for all ages. Opened in 2022, Ghibli Park now includes areas like Ghibli’s Grand Warehouse (the location of the premiere), The Hill of Youth, Dondoko Forest, Mononoke Village, and Valley of Witches.

Studio Ghibli recently announced a brand new short film, following the success of their 2023 release which has become one of Japan’s highest-grossing films ever, earning $294 million. This new announcement comes three years after that film’s debut.

A new original short film from Studio Ghibli will premiere in July, adding to the anticipation for a big summer of anime in 2026. Highlights include the third season of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity, and other popular anime series.
