Before the first episode of the new Spider-Noir series starring Nicolas Cage even aired, one of the show’s creators, Oren Uziel, began discussing possible storylines for a second season. In a recent interview, he hinted that a future season could be set during World War 2, though the show hasn’t been officially renewed yet.
Oren Uziel teases WW2 plot in Spider-Noir Season 2
The writer of The Cloverfield Paradox believes that setting a potential second season during World War II would offer a fantastic backdrop for the story, if Prime Video decides to move forward with another season.
Oren Uziel explained how using a private investigator as a main character – like Ben Reilly – offers a simple way to start new storylines. He told SFX Magazine (via GamesRadar+) that the classic trope of a client walking in the door allows writers to easily expand the story, no matter the location, such as New York or elsewhere.
The experienced screenwriter then revealed that as time moved forward from 1933, things were inevitably leading to financial difficulties in New York and a larger global conflict – a setting he thought would be perfect for future stories.
Spider-Noir stars Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly, a former superhero and now washed-up private detective in 1930s New York. He’s left his crime-fighting days behind, but a strange new case makes him consider becoming ‘the Spider’ again.
The series is set in the 1930s, a time when New York City was struggling with the Great Depression and Prohibition, and when organized crime was rampant. According to writer Uziel, this historical period provides a natural source of conflict and compelling stories. He explains that the city faced immense hardship, but it was also a vibrant and resilient place, creating a perfect setting for a story about a city in crisis.
The first episode of Spider-Noir is scheduled to launch on May 25, 2026, but Prime Video hasn’t announced whether there will be a second season yet.
