Spider-Man & The Punisher Will Face Off Before Brand New Day, Marvel Reveals

Though The Punisher is now a well-known Marvel hero, he originally debuted as a villain for Spider-Man. The two have fought on multiple occasions, including in the Spider-Man: Brand New Day storyline. Before they potentially meet in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they’ll have another showdown in a new Marvel Comics limited series.

Marvel revealed a new comic book series, Punisher vs. Spider-Man, which connects to their upcoming movie. The story will be written by acclaimed author Dan Abnett, known for his work on Punisher: Year One. Artist Matteo Della Fonte, who recently worked on Nova: Centurion, will be creating the artwork for the interior pages.

Punisher vs. Spider-Man a retro tale of two vigilantes

The new miniseries picks up soon after Spider-Man and the Punisher’s initial encounter in a 1974 comic book. An old friend of the Punisher’s will ask for his assistance, and Spider-Man, reluctantly, gets drawn into the situation. Spider-Man sets aside his desire to see the Punisher brought to justice, believing they need to work together for a larger purpose. But this is only a temporary solution, as their differing approaches to fighting crime will ultimately cause them to clash.

As a longtime fan, I have to say, writing these two characters facing off against each other has been a real treat. This series is just a blast – tons of action, and genuinely surprising moments as they discover things about each other for the first time. What’s so exciting about revisiting this crucial period in their history is how fresh their interactions feel. I think readers are going to absolutely love seeing these two together, and discovering things alongside them.

Two covers and four unlettered pages from the first issue may be viewed below.

Punisher vs. Spider-Man #1 will arrive in comic shops everywhere on July 15, 2026.
