The World Foundation, a nonprofit group that manages a particular technology protocol, has secured $52.5 million in funding. This new investment, obtained through a sale of tokens to key investors, will be used to improve its systems for verifying digital information as artificial intelligence increasingly impacts online environments, the organization said Friday.
A new investment, with Pantera Capital, Bain Capital Crypto, and Eightco Holdings taking the lead, will fund the addition of identity technology to various business platforms and artificial intelligence programs.
Last May, The World Network secured $135 million in initial funding by selling its WLD cryptocurrency to major venture capital firms like a16z and Bain Capital Crypto. Currently, one WLD token is worth around $0.37, giving the cryptocurrency a total market value of just over $1.3 billion.
As artificial intelligence rapidly improves, it’s increasingly obvious that verifying real humans online is crucial – and more businesses are starting to recognize this need,” explained Cosmo Jiang, a partner at Pantera Capital.
As an analyst following this project – formerly called Worldcoin – I see its potential to become a leading network focused on verifying real people online. Essentially, it’s building a system for proving you’re human and not a bot. They do this using a special device, the Orb, which scans biometrics to create a unique identity credential while prioritizing user privacy.
According to Tom Lee, a board member at Eightco Holdings and chairman of Bitmine, advancements in technology and methods for verifying identity are crucial for ensuring secure interactions in today’s digital world.
World said the investment comes as it shifts from building the network to scaling the utility.
World Network has grown to over 39 million users, with more than 18 million of them officially verified using an Orb. Since its launch, the network has processed over 475 million World ID proofs and has been upgraded to support larger-scale use.
World, a digital identity project supported by Sam Altman, recently announced a major improvement to its World ID system. They are now presenting it as a complete solution for verifying someone is a real person – useful for individuals, businesses, and artificial intelligence programs.
These changes at the company come as worries grow throughout the tech world about fake accounts created by bots, deepfakes, and AI that pretend to be people online. The company, backed by Altman, is directly addressing this issue with expanded efforts in verifying identities, processing payments, and providing internet services.
