Professor Green recently revealed details of a conversation he had with his former wife, Millie Mackintosh, after they resolved their differences following a difficult breakup.
The 42-year-old rapper and the 36-year-old former Made In Chelsea star have patched things up. They reconnected after she published her book, ‘Bad Drunk,’ which details her journey to becoming sober.
After their split, both individuals received ADHD diagnoses and found common ground in understanding they hadn’t been diagnosed earlier in life.
Professor Green shared that he and Millie spoke when she was preparing to release a book about her sobriety. She reached out because he was mentioned in it, wanting to give him a heads-up – which he appreciated as a considerate gesture.
‘It was very cordial, it was over email.
‘We laughed a little bit going “you’re ADHD… me too”.’
The couple divorced in 2016 after being married for three years. However, Pro Green revealed last year that they had started talking again after not speaking for nine years.
The email conversation between Professor Green, also known as Stephen Manderson, and Millie happened before her divorce from Hugo Taylor.
After seven years together and raising two children, the couple announced their separation in February.
Millie and her husband Hugo are parents to their daughters, five-year-old Siena and three-year-old Aurelia. Meanwhile, Pro Green and his partner, actress Karima Adebibe, share a four-year-old son named Slimane.
The rapper shared in an October podcast interview that he had reconnected with his ex-wife. He spoke openly with her close friend, Jamie Laing – also known from the show Made in Chelsea – on his ‘Great Company’ podcast.
He shared that he and Millie developed a strong connection based on the fact they both realized they had previously undiagnosed ADHD, and that this shared experience brought them close in a complex way.
He realized that both he and the other person were likely neurodivergent, but hadn’t been diagnosed. They discussed this recently and it explained a lot.
I used to feel really uncomfortable with these things for a long time, but I’ve gotten over that now.
He explained that if they hadn’t felt pressured, they might never have gotten married, and the wedding almost didn’t happen.
I recall talking with my close friends, Lewis and Phoenix, and questioning if I was becoming hesitant. One of them thought I was, the other didn’t. I won’t say which one said what, as it wasn’t their place to share.
I chose what was right for me, and we both agreed on it. We decided not to get married, but it wasn’t because of any bad reasons – we genuinely loved each other.
It likely involved a dynamic where unhealthy attachment formed through shared hardship. It’s difficult to admit, but it takes real self-awareness to recognize you played a significant role – at least half – in a situation that ultimately failed, especially when another person was involved.
‘But hopefully we can both go forward and find happiness and belonging.’
He also called his ex-wife ‘beautiful’ as he added: ‘There’s no resentment in me. She is gorgeous.
‘We were not good for each other at that time.’
After he confessed, Millie posted a meaningful message on Instagram. She shared a quote saying, ‘There’s nothing more valuable than our time… except the people we share it with.’
They officially divorced in May 2016, and in the same week, she began publicly dating her now ex-husband, Hugo.
As a lifestyle observer, I noticed something interesting after Professor Green and his wife separated. It seemed he addressed the split – and maybe even shared some feelings about it – in the lyrics of his 2016 song, ‘Eye On The Door.’ It definitely felt like a personal message woven into the music.
The rapper starts by playfully complaining that he and Millie didn’t get up to much during their time together, mostly just watching TV shows.
He claimed she frequently made him leave their home in southeast London, only letting him return if he brought a substantial gift.
He raps about his relationship, saying he and his wife are happy until he makes a mistake, which then leads to conflict. He also acknowledges people are curious about what his life is like.
Privately, my wife and I enjoy relaxing together. We usually watch a few episodes of a TV series before going to sleep. But when she hears me rapping, she gets upset and tells me to leave! I’ll likely be sleeping elsewhere until I can make it up to her with a new Chanel bag.
In the second part of the song, Pro Green’s character struggles with guilt. He’s worried about getting divorced, but he’s also ignoring his wife’s emotions as he goes out and enjoys himself with friends.
In his lyrics, he reflects on his drug use, saying he quickly went from using a small amount to much more, and feels like he lost track of time and is now facing the consequences.
I can’t find my phone! There are sixty-one missed calls, and things are getting serious – I need to get myself organized, or I’m going to be in trouble.
Well, I’m certainly not having a good time! I really need to hurry up and get a car, especially if I’m already in trouble.
Just one more—what does it matter? Another drink, another hit… I’m already heading for trouble when I get back anyway.
Millie shared on Brogan Garrit-Smith’s podcast, Getting There, that she experienced a difficult period during her divorce last year.
Looking back on our marriage, I realize Professor Green and I were both dealing with personal difficulties, and perhaps we each hoped the other could help us through them. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.
We were both dealing with personal difficulties, and being together only made them worse. It became a really unhealthy situation.
Professor Green, appearing on the show Celebs Go Dating, explained that he tends to rush into relationships because of the excitement and strong feelings they offer. However, he admitted this often leads to him feeling bitter later on.
After Millie, he had a relationship with actress Karima McAdams before they split in 2023.
