While Xbox recently announced its new Project Helix console, PlayStation has been relatively quiet, but it appears they’re planning to let their game announcements do the talking – and those announcements could arrive sooner than expected.
So, I’ve been seeing a lot of chatter online, especially from a Redditor named FitNectarine5779, and it’s starting to look like some big announcements or updates might be coming soon. We don’t know exactly what it’ll be, but the timing of all these rumors feels way too coincidental to ignore. Still, as a PlayStation gamer, I’m taking everything with a grain of salt until we get official confirmation.
Multiple State Of Plays Are Coming
Recent rumors suggest that PlayStation might host one or more State of Play presentations before June, possibly starting as early as April 16th. These events are expected to highlight major third-party games and potentially feature an in-depth look at Marvel’s Wolverine, the game from Cory and Faye. News about Wolverine seems most likely, as Insomniac has confirmed we’ll receive updates on the game by Spring 2026.
It looks like we’ll likely get a dedicated State of Play presentation for Marvel’s Wolverine soon, probably showing off extended gameplay. Beyond that, a general State of Play could include games like Judas, Control: Resonant, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword – those are the titles one user, Yarzeda2024, is particularly excited to learn more about.
A user named Animegamingnerd is predicting we’ll soon see a remake of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. Rumors suggest the reveal will happen on April 16th, coinciding with a planned State of Play presentation. Given this timing, it wouldn’t be shocking if the remake was announced – or even released unexpectedly – very soon.
We Could Get PS5 Shadow Drops
The State of Play presentations are especially exciting because surprise announcements – often called “shadow drops” – are always a possibility. For example, Santa Monica unexpectedly revealed God of War Sons of Sparta during the February 2026 presentation. If it’s been in the works for a while, it would be amazing to see Insomniac’s Venom game appear as a similar surprise.
Macsilver18 shared that they miss E3, noting it used to reliably signal a wave of exciting game announcements. While ForcadoUALG points out that developers now have more freedom to announce games on their own schedule, this leaves fans in a tricky spot. PlayStation’s State of Play events, for example, are hard to anticipate, relying mostly on speculation and leaks.
