Summary
- Nike and 3D-printing pioneer Zellerfeld are continuing their multi-year partnership with the release of the AirMax 1000.2 in a sleek “Black/Black” colorway
- Treating sneaker design like software updates, this iteration features structural enhancements—including a refined lug design and shape updates—that make it faster to produce without sacrificing comfort
- The ongoing collaboration will also anchor Nike’s inaugural “Air Works” program this May, bringing global designers to Nike HQ to co-create the future of 3D-printed Air Max styles
Nike is taking 3D-printed shoes to the next level with the AirMax 1000.2, created with Zellerfeld. Building on the innovative AirMax 1000 (a modern take on the iconic 1987 Air Max 1), this new shoe showcases a unique design process. Nike is treating shoe design like software, constantly improving the shape, performance, and how efficiently it’s made with each new version. The AirMax 1000.2 is launching in a simple, all-black color scheme.
The newest version, 1000.2, has improved the shoe’s sole with a redesigned shape and tread pattern. These changes make the shoe quicker to manufacture without sacrificing the comfortable fit and feel of the original. It still has the same simple, laceless design and features a textured upper that’s inspired by the classic Air Max 1. This makes the shoe easy to put on and provides that familiar, comfortable Max Air feeling.
Nike and Zellerfeld are collaborating on a long-term project that’s about more than just one shoe. This partnership will launch Nike’s new “Air Works” program in May, bringing together talented creators from around the world. These creators will come to Nike headquarters to work with experienced mentors and, together with Zellerfeld, design unique 3D-printed Air Max shoes inspired by their communities and personal styles.
If you’re hoping to buy the new 3D-printed Nike Air Max 1000.2 in black, you have a couple of chances. From May 4th to May 7th, you can enter a raffle on Zellerfeld’s EQL platform. The shoes will also be available in North America through the Nike SNKRS app on May 7th.
