For U.S. subscribers, the price of Netflix is going up yet again.
The price of the ad-supported plan will increase by $1, from $7.99 to $8.99 per month. The ad-free plan will go up by $2, costing $19.99 a month. The premium plan, which includes four simultaneous streams and HD viewing, is also increasing by $2, from $24.99 to $26.99 per month.
Netflix isn’t alone in raising prices for its streaming service. HBO Max increased its prices in October, with plans now costing $10.99, $18.49, or $22.99 per month, depending on whether you’re okay with ads and the video quality you want. Disney+ (and Hulu) also raised prices a month before that; Disney+ now charges $11.99 per month for its plan with ads and $18.99 for the ad-free version.

Beginning October 21st, Disney+ will cost more. The ad-supported plan will increase from $9.99 to $11.99 monthly, and the ad-free plan will go up to $18.99 from $15.99. Hulu with ads also recently increased in price, from $9.99 to $11.99 per month.
Although Netflix customers are upset about the price increase, Wall Street seems pleased. One financial analyst even described it as positive news and a relief for investors. Netflix last adjusted its subscription prices just 15 months ago, in January 2025, and this latest increase averages around 10 percent across all plans.
These companies consistently raise prices, and they’ll likely keep doing so as long as customers continue to pay. If you want to see a change, the most effective way is to cancel your subscription.
The Best Netflix Movies of 2025

Plankton: The Movie
It’s a bit surprising to see a movie related to SpongeBob on a list of the best Netflix films of the year, especially since Netflix hasn’t released many standout original movies recently. However, Plankton: The Movie is actually quite good. This second film in the planned SpongeBob SquarePants series focuses on Plankton, SpongeBob’s tiny rival, as he tries to win back his wife, Karen. Karen is a computer who turns herself into a giant robot and decides to take over the world on her own. While the animation is mostly 3D CGI – a change for fans of the original 2D show – the filmmakers include scenes with different animation styles, showing their dedication to the art form.

Nonnas
Netflix released the feel-good movie Nonnas this Mother’s Day. It stars Vince Vaughn as Joe Scaravella, a man who honors his late mother by opening a restaurant run entirely by Italian grandmothers. These nonnas bring generations of cooking experience and cherished family recipes. While the film follows typical small business challenges – staff disagreements, inspections, and a tough critic – it’s ultimately a heartwarming story brought to life by a delightful cast. It’s a sweet reminder to appreciate your grandmothers!

KPop Demon Hunters
Okay, seriously, if you haven’t heard of KPop Demon Hunters yet, where have you been? It’s been everywhere this year! Basically, it’s exactly what it sounds like – a K-pop girl group who are secretly amazing martial artists. Their job? Saving the world from demons using their voices to power this shield called the “Honmoon” that keeps the bad stuff out. Things were going well until a rival boy band showed up… and it turns out they’re the demons! They want to destroy the Honmoon and unleash chaos. Honestly, the songs are super catchy, the animation is stunning, and the plot has enough surprises to keep you hooked. I guarantee you’re already humming “Golden” right now!

Broke
Wyatt Russell delivers a standout performance in Broke, a gripping Western drama about a struggling bronc rider facing incredible hardship. He’s already dealing with a serious head injury, financial troubles, and a lack of other career options, when a sudden blizzard traps him and forces him to fight for his life. It’s a story about resilience and refusing to be defined by difficult circumstances – the kind of role that allows Russell to truly shine, something fans have been hoping to see in his recent Marvel work. Movies like Broke remind us why we love compelling, character-driven stories.

Steve
Cillian Murphy consistently delivers compelling performances in roles where his character is facing immense challenges, and his new film, Steve, is no exception. He plays a school principal dedicated to helping troubled boys turn their lives around, despite constant disrespect. The movie focuses on a single, difficult day in Steve’s life as he navigates fights, personal issues, and ensures his students don’t feel isolated.

The Thursday Murder Club
The idea of a seemingly ordinary elderly person solving a murder is a classic mystery setup, seen in everything from Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple stories to the recent Matlock revival. The Netflix movie The Thursday Murder Club takes this idea and asks: what if there were many such people, and they were all played by beloved veteran actors? Based on Richard Osman’s popular novel, the film follows a group of retired detectives living in a peaceful village who spend their time investigating unsolved crimes. It features a wonderful cast, a plot that’s both thrilling and heartwarming, and – thankfully – a murder actually gets solved!

Frankenstein
It was no surprise that a Frankenstein film directed by Guillermo del Toro and starring Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi would be excellent, but the final result truly exceeded expectations. The movie is visually stunning, filled with powerful religious symbolism and breathtaking scenes of the Arctic. It’s anchored by incredible performances from both Elordi, who plays the bookish and thoughtful creature, and Isaac, who embodies a self-obsessed inventor determined to challenge the divine. Del Toro’s Frankenstein is precisely the kind of thrilling and atmospheric horror film fans have been hoping for.

Train Dreams
With its thoughtful and dreamlike quality, and beautiful shots of nature, Train Dreams is easily one of the year’s best films. Starring Joel Edgerton and Felicity Jones, it tells the life story of a man working on the railroads and in logging around the time the Spokane International Railway was built. The movie offers a moving look at how the American Northwest changed with industrialization – the lives it impacted, the lives lost, and the wild landscapes that disappeared.

Jay Kelly
The new movie Jay Kelly sounds a bit predictable – it’s about a fading movie star trying to repair relationships he damaged while chasing Hollywood success – and it embraces that wholeheartedly, which is a good thing. George Clooney plays the title character, embarking on a chaotic journey through southern Europe to reconnect with his daughter and attend a career celebration. While Clooney brings a frantic energy to the role, the performances of Adam Sandler and Laura Dern add to the film’s charm. It all builds to a moving acting montage that’s sure to make Clooney fans emotional.

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery
Benoit Blanc returns in a new mystery, this time centered around a murder at a Catholic church. In Wake Up Dead Man, Blanc must unravel the crime with the help of a stellar cast – including Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, and Kerry Washington – as they bring the story to life. While the previous film, Glass Onion, felt very modern, this installment draws inspiration from classic gothic mysteries, creating a puzzle that would likely impress legendary authors like Agatha Christie and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
