Now that HBO Max has launched in the UK, there’s plenty of new content to explore. If you’re a fan of British actress Sarah Lancashire, you’ll be happy to know her comedy-drama series, Julia – originally released in 2022 – is now available to stream on the platform.
The star of Happy Valley and Black Doves takes on the role of Julia Child, the beloved cookbook author and television personality. The series is set in the 1960s, following Child as she created her popular TV show, The French Chef. The show first aired in the United States early in the decade and ran for about ten years.
I was a huge fan of Julia! It only lasted two seasons, which was a shame, but it got amazing reviews. Seriously, it has a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes right now, which just proves how good it was!

According to a review in The Times, the first season is a wonderful show – both happy and sad, with nuanced emotions. The review also praised its meticulous attention to the time period, similar to Mad Men, and the excellent performances from the supporting actors.
IndieWire described the show as “the ultimate comfort television,” explaining that it creates a warm and enjoyable experience for viewers through its focus on cooking. They also praised the actors, noting their consistently excellent performances.
The Guardian gave the film four stars, praising the performances as wonderfully reminiscent of classic cinema. However, they noted the script was a bit dense and overly detailed, which actually contributed to the film’s overall style.

HBO Max isn’t just launching with this; it’s also bringing over some highly anticipated content. Most notably, the series The Pitt – which has been a big hit in the US – is now available for viewers in the UK.
This medical drama was created by R. Scott Gemmill, a writer for the show ER, and stars Noah Wyle, who also appeared on ER. It’s widely considered to be one of the best shows in its genre.
The show The Pitt was a hit from the start, premiering in 2025 and winning several awards, like Golden Globes and Emmys. Season two has already aired in the US, and fans can look forward to a third season coming soon.
Julia is available to stream on HBO Max.
The latest issue of Living Legends magazine, a vibrant 100-page tribute to Harry Styles, is now available! You can find it at newsstands or purchase it online.
