King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard go a different direction on new album

As a huge King Gizzard fan, I just can’t wrap my head around how those guys stay so tight! They’re constantly creating and touring, and it’s amazing. Seriously, they must be incredibly close friends – there’s no way you could work that intensely with anyone else without needing a serious breather. But with King Gizzard, it just works.

The Australians started making music in 2010, and the core group of members has been together since 2011. They’ve been incredibly productive, releasing 27 studio albums, 3 EPs, and a remarkable 73 live albums. However, their upcoming album is something truly different from anything they’ve done before.

The band has explored many genres – including metal, jam band, psychedelic rock, progressive rock, and electronica – but they’ve never released a dedicated techno album. This new album will finally be that techno record.

King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard appear on the verge of releasing a techno album

The band has finished recording their new album and shared a short preview on Instagram. The clip features electronic sounds and a visual of tangled wires connected to synthesizers. While the album doesn’t have a title or official release date yet, fans can likely expect it to come out in 2026.

The band probably won’t release the new music on Spotify. They removed their songs from the platform last year because they disagree with Spotify founder Daniel Ek’s investments. Ek has put money into Helsing, a company that builds military drones and artificial intelligence software, and this is the reason for the band’s protest – it’s not about the music itself.

So, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard are doing something really cool. They’ve put all their albums on Bandcamp and are letting fans pay whatever they can afford. Basically, they get that not everyone has $20 or $30 to drop on every single album they release, and that’s awesome. It means more people can actually enjoy their music, which is a win for everyone, honestly.

This is particularly true when looking at their live performances, but one thing is clear: King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard consistently deliver fantastic albums, no matter the style they explore. Some fans even think they’re working on a bluegrass album with Billy Strings, and if their past work is any indication, that would likely be great too.
