Hunter Biden drops defamation suit against Fox News over mock trial show

As a dedicated movie lover with a deep appreciation for the nuances of storytelling and the importance of factual accuracy, I am deeply disappointed by Fox News’ decision to air a defamatory mock trial series about Hunter Biden. The line between reality and fiction should never be blurred so carelessly, especially when it comes at the expense of an individual’s reputation.

Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, is abandoning his defamation claim against Fox News concerning a fictitious TV show that portrayed his legal issues.

On Sunday, lawyers for Hunter Biden submitted a request to dismiss the case in New York Supreme Court without compulsion. Shortly following this action, President Biden concluded his re-election bid and supported Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor. (Fox News was informed of these developments hours afterwards.)

Hunter Biden’s lawsuit claimed that Fox News harmed his reputation with their six-part series titled “The Trial of Hunter Biden: A Mock Trial for the American People,” which aired on their streaming service, Fox Nation.

In the 2022 television show, Judge Joe Brown from the syndicated series presided over a fictional courtroom scene where President Biden stood trial for alleged bribery and questionable financial transactions with foreign governments. However, it’s important to note that President Biden has not been officially indicted on these accusations.

Last month, I learned that President Biden had been found guilty of committing federal gun offenses. Among these charges were lies he told about being free of drugs when he bought a firearm, during a time when he was battling an addiction to crack cocaine.

In the premiere episode of The Fox Nation series, it was made clear to audiences that what they were watching was not a genuine trial and that Joe Biden had not been formally accused of any of the depicted offenses. However, authentic emails and photographs from Biden’s laptop were utilized as evidence in making allegations against him, including explicit images.

Additionally, the program incorporated real-life individuals into the Biden narrative, like the proprietor of the Delaware computer repair store who stumbled upon President Biden’s son’s abandoned laptop.

Fox Nation pulled the program in April 2024 after Biden sent a letter threatening legal action.

The network called the suit politically motivated and “devoid of merit” when it was filed.

The law firm Geragos & Geragos, which is currently representing Joe Biden, declined to provide an explanation as to why they recently dismissed the lawsuit.
