Every MCU Character Confirmed To Survive Avengers: Doomsday

The highly anticipated movie ‘Doom’ is set to release in December, and it’s expected to be a pivotal event for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans are excited – and relieved the trailer hasn’t been leaked! – as the film will kick off the final chapter of the Multiverse Saga. Earth’s heroes, including the Fantastic Four and X-Men, will unite to battle Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., in what promises to be an epic showdown.

The upcoming Avengers: Doomsday event will be a dark and dangerous story, with several fan-favorite characters tragically dying in battle against Doctor Doom. However, not everyone will fall – a few key heroes and villains are confirmed to make it through the fight and will continue on into the next phase of Marvel Cinematic Universe stories.

Deadpool Will Return in Future MCU Projects

Although it hasn’t been officially announced, most fans expect Deadpool to join the Avengers in their fight against Doctor Doom. His recent appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine set the stage for the next big Marvel crossover event, so it would be surprising if he wasn’t included.

If Deadpool shows up in Avengers: Doomsday, fans don’t need to worry about his safety. Not only is he famously hard to kill, but there’s already a confirmed project planned for him after the movie. Ryan Reynolds has hinted that this next project will likely involve another team-up. Since this is happening after Doomsday, it’s safe to say Deadpool will continue appearing in Marvel films for the foreseeable future.

Spider-Man Is at the Dawn of a New Era in the MCU

Fans are convinced Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will be in Avengers: Doomsday, even though it hasn’t been officially confirmed. He’s returning to the big screen after five years in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which comes out right before Doomsday later this year. Although the timing is tight, most people believe Spider-Man is essential to the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will definitely be part of Doomsday.

If Spider-Man appears in Doomsday, he’ll likely be one of the heroes who survives Doctor Doom’s plans. Brand New Day kicks off a new series of films featuring the character, meaning Peter Parker will be around for several more years before potentially leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel won’t be killing Spider-Man off at the beginning of this new story, so fans don’t need to worry about another devastating loss like the one in Infinity War.

However, the same isn’t true for the different versions of Spider-Man from across the multiverse. With the multiverse falling apart, there’s a good chance Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men could appear in Avengers: Doomsday. Some rumors even suggest the movie might start with one of their universes being destroyed. So, while Tom Holland’s Spider-Man seems safe, it’s still possible that a Spider-Man could die battling Doctor Doom.

Shang-Chi’s Long-Delayed Sequel Is Still Coming

Five years after first appearing in a Marvel movie, Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi will join forces with the Avengers to battle Doctor Doom. Though Doom is a more powerful villain than Iron Man, Shang-Chi will survive the fight. Marvel has announced that we’ll see more of this hero in future films.

Even though it’s been a while, Marvel Studios is still working on Shang-Chi 2. Director Destin Daniel Cretton is still on board, but his commitments to other projects—like Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Wonder Man—have caused delays in production. However, everyone involved remains enthusiastic about making the sequel, even if it takes several years. The good news is that the delay ensures Shang-Chi will survive his battle with Doctor Doom and be able to return for the next film.

Shuri Still Has More Stories to Tell

Letitia Wright’s Shuri makes her debut as the Black Panther in a crossover film with Avengers: Doomsday. Following the death of her brother, T’Challa, in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Shuri became the new Black Panther. Considering Marvel Studios has already significantly impacted the Wakandan royal family, and other clues within the story, it’s likely Shuri will survive the events of Doomsday and continue as Black Panther in future films (Phase 7).

Marvel Studios is starting work on Black Panther 3, and Ryan Coogler is back to direct the final film in his Black Panther series. Currently, the movie is planned for release in 2028, after Marvel finishes its current storyline, the Multiverse Saga. Although there’s been talk about potentially recasting the lead role, both Coogler and Letitia Wright (who plays Shuri) have suggested Shuri will be back for the third film, making her return likely.

The Fantastic Four Are Just Getting Started in the MCU

As a longtime fan, I’m thrilled to say the Fantastic Four are officially MCU members! We first saw them come to life in 2025’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and it’s exciting to know they’ll be joining the fight in Avengers: Doomsday. Doctor Doom, naturally, is their biggest threat, and his grudge against them is legendary. But honestly, knowing these characters, I don’t foresee Doom actually winning against the Fantastic Four – they’re just too resilient.

Marvel Studios has been planning to introduce the Fantastic Four into the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a long time. While other versions of the team have been shown being defeated in films like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Deadpool & Wolverine, the main Fantastic Four team seems safe, especially from their classic enemy, Doctor Doom. This team is just beginning their journey in the MCU and is expected to be central to future storylines, starting with Phase 7. Killing them off now, so soon after their introduction, would be a significant error.

Doctor Doom Will Return in Secret Wars

Robert Downey Jr. is confirmed to be one of the survivors of Avengers: Doomsday. After first playing Iron Man in 2008, he’s returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the main villain of the Multiverse Saga. He intends to portray the most formidable and menacing version of Doctor Doom ever seen in a live-action movie. While it’s uncertain if Doom will win, he will battle Earth’s Mightiest Heroes again next year.

When Robert Downey Jr. was announced as Doctor Doom, Marvel confirmed he’d appear in both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. This guarantees his character will live through the events of Doomsday and return for at least one more battle in 2027. However, his fate in Secret Wars is uncertain – he might ultimately be defeated by the Avengers, but it won’t happen in Doomsday.

Avengers: Doomsday opens in theaters on December 18, 2026.
