Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Teases Original Sin Cameo

However, a small detail spotted in behind-the-scenes pictures from Season 2, shared by director Marcos Siega, hints that the new series might address this issue.

A recent post on Siega’s Instagram has fans speculating about a possible appearance by a young Dexter in the second season of Dexter: Resurrection. It’s possible I’m overthinking things, but the hint is too strong to ignore, and it’s definitely got dedicated fans buzzing with excitement.

New Dexter: Resurrection Photos Hint at

As a huge fan of the show, I was checking out what the director, Miguel Siete, posted on Instagram from the set, and I noticed something really interesting. He shared a picture of a syringe and a bottle of M99 – that’s the super strong tranquilizer Dexter used to use back in Miami. It was how he’d knock out his victims so he could… well, do what he did. But what really caught my eye weren’t the drugs themselves, it was the labels stuck to the bottle beside it.

The labels in the image have an expiration date of December 30, 1992, which sparked speculation among fans. This date is significant because the original Dexter series, starting with Dexter’s time at Miami Metro PD, was set in the 1990s. Viewers on Instagram noticed this detail, with one commenting that the expiration date was a curious find, hinting at a possible flashback or appearance from the original timeline in the current Dexter: Resurrection.

Unless Dexter somehow found an old, outdated M99 from when he first started killing and hoped it still worked, this scene is likely a flashback. If so, it makes sense that Gibson is playing the younger Dexter. The original series notoriously used Michael C. Hall with a messy wig and innocent expression for flashbacks, and this would be a significant improvement.

Will Cameo in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2?

While it hasn’t been officially confirmed, a recently shared image seems to hint at a possible flashback scene in the show’s second season. It’s likely meant to get fans talking. It’s possible the photo was just a random shot from a collection taken by the photographer, but even if so, it’s strange to see an item with a ’90s label appearing in a show set in the 2020s.

It would be disappointing to hint at Gibson’s return if he doesn’t deliver; fans loved how well he captured Dexter’s uncomfortable nature and the growing strength of his inner darkness as Dexter first learned to manage it. While Dexter: Original Sin isn’t a fan favorite, it still plays an important role in the overall story.

How could Gibson appear in the current show, now that Michael C. Hall is playing Dexter again? One possibility is a flashback to Dexter’s childhood, or a key scene that explains his present actions. Perhaps it could be a scene with a character who happens to be around the same age as Dexter was in the original series’ early episodes.

The series aims to depict highly anticipated scenes, such as the origins of Dexter’s methodical approach with M99 and his practice of collecting blood slides. Showing this long-awaited flashback – something fans always hoped for – would be a real treat.

This storyline makes sense for the series. Eli Sherman returned to play the young version of the main character, so it’s plausible we might also see him as a young adult.

I’ve been thinking, what if Dexter’s actually hallucinating all this? It wouldn’t be the first time for him. It’s a strange idea, but what if the things he’s seeing are actually a simpler, more naive part of himself coming out? Like, maybe he’s confronting a younger, less complicated version of who he used to be.

Even a brief appearance by Gibson would be a satisfying way to conclude the series and bring everything full circle. While it will be bittersweet knowing the prequel is truly over – we won’t see Dexter, Debra, or Harry’s backstories explored further – it will still give fans some closure.

What the Could Mean for Dexter’s Story

Bringing back Dexter Gibson would be great for connecting the storylines, but it needs to make sense for the current season and be important to what’s happening now. It’s definitely something to think about. We already have some details about Dexter: Resurrection Season 2: Brian Cox will be playing a serial killer who’s been retired for decades, and Dan Stevens will appear as The Five Borough Killer. Plus, Uma Thurman is returning as Charley Brown.

Dexter has a list of people he intends to kill, and two particularly dangerous individuals are likely to become his next targets. He might also be seeking to return to his old methods, potentially revisiting painful memories, and Gibson could play a role in that process.

As a huge Dexter fan, I’ve been thinking about the Gibson storyline, and it feels like it’s more than just a way to move the plot forward. It almost feels like Dexter is confronting his younger self, finally dealing with the trauma that started everything and letting go of the person he tried so hard not to become. Maybe he needs to revisit the beginning to truly move on. But it’s also possible he’s seeing that younger, more hopeful Dexter, and it’s actually him who’s being convinced to stay on the path he swore to his father he wouldn’t – the path of the killer.

The series Dexter: Resurrection is already in progress. Adding John Lithgow’s character, Arthur Mitchell, would be a nice way to give him a proper send-off after the original show was cancelled so suddenly. It wouldn’t change the fact that the prequel series didn’t last, but it would be a respectful nod to the brief glimpse we had of young Dexter’s life.
