The upcoming DC movie, Clayface, promises to be unlike anything we’ve seen before, based on the first trailer that was just released. You can watch the trailer now!
The new film, Clayface, directed by James Watkins and written by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, features Tom Rhys Harries (known for his role as Ricky September in the controversial Doctor Who episode ‘Dot and Bubble’) as Matt Hagen, an actor whose face is badly injured in an attack.
Desperate for a solution, he seeks help from Dr. Caitlyn Corr (Naomi Ackie), but her advanced scientific methods have an unexpected result: Hagen’s body turns to clay. The trailer suggests this transformation makes him a dangerous threat to anyone who gets in his way.
If you like what you see, Clayface is released in cinemas on 23 October.
I’m really excited about the new movie featuring Clayface! It’s got a great cast – Max Minghella, Eddie Marsan, and David Dencik are all in it. It’s the second DC Universe movie this year, following Supergirl which comes out on June 26th. And if you’re like me and love all things DC, don’t forget Lanterns is hitting HBO Max in August too!

As the trailer suggests, the upcoming Clayface movie won’t be a standard, all-ages comic book adaptation. Producer James Gunn revealed in a June 2025 podcast that it’s highly likely to receive an R rating in the US, meaning it would probably be rated 15 or higher in the UK.
He described it as a really good horror film – smart, fun, and genuinely scary, especially for fans of body horror. He hinted it’s quite intense.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this Batman villain on screen. They’ve appeared in shows like Gotham and Pennyworth, and even the 2002 Birds of Prey series – separate from the more recent movie starring Margot Robbie.
Clayface is released in cinemas on 23 October.
