Netflix’s new crime thriller has quickly turned around into a global streaming sensation.
As a movie critic, I’ve been watching Netflix dominate the streaming landscape for years, and they consistently deliver when it comes to dark, compelling thrillers. They really seem to understand what audiences want when it comes to crime stories – think David Fincher’s The Killer, Night Always Comes, and Reptile. In 2026, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s The Rip became a huge hit for them, and now there’s a new thriller in town vying for that top spot.
Netflix’s new thriller, 180, is quickly becoming a hit around the world. Written and directed by Alex Yazbek, the film tells the story of a father whose life is turned upside down when a road rage incident leaves his son seriously injured. Driven by fury and despair, he embarks on a dangerous quest for revenge.
As of today, April 22nd, the movie 180 is the most popular film on Netflix worldwide. Released on April 17th, it’s currently ranked number one, ahead of titles like Roommates, Thrash, The Interpreter, Untold: The Shooting at Hawthorne Hill, Espace Plan 2: Hades, The Naked Gun, Toaster, Shooter, and Despicable Me 4, which is in tenth place.
The movie 180 is currently the third most popular film on Netflix in the US, behind Roommates and Untold: The Shooting at Hawthorne Hill. It’s ahead of films like The Requin, Husband, Father, Killer: The Alyssa Pladl Story, Thrash, HIM, Nobody Dumps My Daughter, KPop Demon Hunters, and Minions: The Rise of Gru, which rounds out the top ten.
The film 180 is currently a Top 10 hit on Netflix in an impressive 91 countries. These include nations across North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania, and various Caribbean and island regions.
I’m really excited about the cast Netflix assembled for this new movie! Prince Grootboom is leading the charge, and he’s joined by some fantastic actors – Noxolo Dlamini, Danica De La Rey, Warren Masemola, Desmond Dube, Fana Mokoena, Kabelo Thai, Bongile Mantsai, Zenobia Kloppers, and Makhaola Ndebele. It’s a seriously talented group!
As of right now, the movie has only received one review on Rotten Tomatoes – from John Serva at Decider. He describes it as a solid thriller that’s both tense and thought-provoking, but this single review isn’t enough for the site to calculate an overall score.
With fewer than 50 user ratings, the film doesn’t have enough feedback to generate an audience score. However, those who have seen it largely dislike it, describing it as poorly written, unbelievable, and frustrating. Viewers commonly criticize the main character as silly and inconsistent, and point to weak action sequences and a slow pace. Most people feel that the 94-minute runtime isn’t justified by the film’s quality.
