Cher pleads for conservatorship of son Elijah Blue Allman after he’s locked up in psychiatric hospital

As someone who’s followed many family dynamics, I’m hearing that Cher has taken a really tough step – she’s petitioning the court to temporarily oversee the affairs of her son, Elijah Blue Allman. It sounds like he’s been going through a lot lately, facing some serious challenges with his finances, legal issues, and unfortunately, substance use. It’s a difficult situation, and she’s clearly acting out of concern for his well-being.

According to court filings obtained by the Daily Mail on Friday, 79-year-old singer Gregg Allman’s son, Elijah, is currently in a psychiatric hospital. The singer stated that his condition has worsened considerably since she sought a conservatorship for him in 2023.

Cher described a frightening situation where 49-year-old Gregg Allman was discovered unresponsive in his car, blocking traffic. He was taken to the hospital and revived with Narcan.

The singer, known as Believe, was also worried about Allman’s handling of money, stating that he doesn’t understand finances, can’t manage his money well, and is easily taken advantage of financially.

Cher has revealed that her son owes a drug dealer $18,000 and needed to borrow money from a friend to stay safe.

In addition to his drug issues, Allman is facing a mounting $200,000 tax bill.

Court records show he owes a substantial amount of money due to damage he caused to several Airbnbs, such as cigarette burns and broken windows.

Cher claims Allman owes $50,000 from his last Airbnb stay after he reportedly trashed the property.

She claims he’s been prohibited from staying at 18 hotels due to disruptive behavior, including yelling offensive language and acting unpredictably.

According to reports, Allman allegedly trapped a young hotel maid and made unwanted sexual advances towards her.

Allman has recently been arrested multiple times in New Hampshire, facing charges like burglary, vandalism, assault, trespassing, and violating his bail conditions.

Cher is asking the judge to appoint Jason Rubin to temporarily manage Allman’s finances and affairs, explaining that her son is in a critical situation.

She stated that Allman’s mental health has gotten much worse, and his drug use is now at its peak.

Cher is asking Rubin to take charge of Elijah’s problems so they can be addressed gradually, one at a time.

Daily Mail has reached out to Cher and Allman’s representatives for comment.

Cher is also a mother to Chaz Bono, age 57, from her marriage to the late Sonny Bono, in addition to her son, Elijah.

Oh my god, you won’t BELIEVE this! Apparently, back in February, Gregg Allman – my absolute hero – got arrested in New Hampshire! The reports said he was just… being himself, you know? They called it ‘causing a disturbance’ and said he was ‘acting belligerently’ at some fancy prep school. Honestly, it just sounds like Gregg being a free spirit to me! I bet whatever happened, it was legendary. I need more details, immediately!

Police in Concord responded to a call around 7 p.m. on February 27th regarding someone causing a disruption in the school’s dining hall, according to TMZ.

Let me tell you, things escalated quickly with this gentleman, Allman. Witnesses said he was being really aggressive and confrontational, which unfortunately meant the authorities had to get involved. It’s always a shame when a situation gets to that point, but safety is the priority, of course.

Allman was arrested, booked, and then released without having to pay bail, according to reports. He is expected to appear in court at a later date for his arraignment.

Reports show Allman has no apparent connection to the school, and the reason for his presence on campus is currently unknown.

This event happened after a concerning health issue in June 2025, when Allman was hospitalized due to a drug overdose.

According to a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson, on June 14, 2025, at approximately 1:25 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a home on Cambria Avenue in Landers after receiving reports of a man behaving strangely.

When deputies reached the scene, they found 48-year-old Elijah Allman being checked by paramedics. They discovered drugs in the house, and Allman was taken to the hospital.

In 2014, Allman shared that he started using drugs, including marijuana and ecstasy, when he was only 11 years old, and described several dangerous situations he experienced.

He explained to ET that he turned to drugs like heroin and opiates as a way to cope with and leave behind difficult experiences from his past.

Looking back, it sounds strange to say, but going through a really dark time, I honestly believe heroin, unfortunately, kept me alive. It was a terrible coping mechanism, but at that moment, when I felt completely lost and overwhelmed, I truly don’t know what would have happened to me – I might have ended things completely. It got me through that incredibly difficult period, and thankfully, I was eventually able to get the help I needed to turn things around. It’s about surviving that moment, no matter how, and then reaching out for support.

Allman also recalled ‘some moments of really feeling at the edge of mortality.’

I used to play it safe, but you can’t really do that, he said. Even if you believe you’re being careful, things can still go wrong.

It’s easy to fall into a really dark place when things go wrong, and I realized I was heading there. I knew things weren’t right and I was deeply unhappy with my life at the time.

In early 2024, a judge rejected Cher’s request to become the conservator for her son.

She asked a Los Angeles court to temporarily manage her son Elijah’s finances, explaining that his drug addiction and health problems prevent him from handling the $120,000 yearly income from his late father’s trust.

Cher was worried he would waste his $10,000 monthly payments on drugs, which could be dangerous for him.

Judge Jessica Uzcategui denied Cher’s request to become conservator, explaining that her legal team hadn’t properly informed Sonny Allman about the court proceedings and wouldn’t provide him with necessary case details.
