CBS is undergoing another round of layoffs, and this time the cuts are more significant than previous changes to its shows’ staff.
I just heard that the next season of Fire Country is going to be a bit shorter than usual. Instead of the 20 episodes we got in Season 4, Season 5 will only have 15. Apparently, CBS is trying to fit more shows into its schedule, so Fire Country isn’t the only one getting a smaller season – Matlock with Kathy Bates is too! It’s a bit disappointing, but hopefully, they can still tell great stories even with fewer episodes.
Fire Country’s Latest Behind-the-Scenes Shakeups — Explained
In February, news came out that Fire Country would be renewed for a fifth season, but with some changes. Tia Napolitano, who has been the showrunner for a long time, announced she’ll be leaving after Season 5, and Eric Guggenheim will be taking over as showrunner.
At the time, we said that Tia was essential to the creation and direction of Fire Country, which quickly became a popular show and is now the basis for a larger franchise. We appreciate everything she’s done and are excited to work with her again on upcoming projects.
News of Janet Napolitano leaving the show followed announcements that Billy Burke and Stephanie Arcila, who played Vince Leone and Gabriela Perez, were also departing Fire Country. Although budget cuts were the reason, the show gave both characters satisfying conclusions to their storylines.
What’s Next for the Fire Country Franchise on CBS?
As fans await Season 5 of Fire Country, its first spin-off, Sheriff Country starring Morena Baccarin, is nearing the end of its first season on CBS. The season one finale, titled “Mexico,” is scheduled to air on May 22nd, but there may be even more to look forward to for viewers in the weeks ahead.
As a big fan of these shows, I was excited to hear that the Fire Country and Sheriff Country universe is expanding! Apparently, there’s a new series in the works focusing on the paramedics and other first responders in Edgewater County. What’s really cool is they’re planning to introduce the main cast in an upcoming episode of Sheriff Country – just like they did with Morena Baccarin’s Sheriff Mickey Fox when she first appeared on Fire Country. It’s a clever way to build connections between the shows and get us invested in the new characters.
Details about the story and actors in the upcoming series Med Country haven’t been released yet. However, it has been confirmed that Matt Lopez, who was the showrunner and executive producer of Sheriff Country, will take on the same role for this new spinoff. He’ll be joined by producers from Fire Country and Sheriff Country, including Max Thieriot, Joan Rater, Tony Phelan, KristieAnne Reed, and the well-known Jerry Bruckheimer.
Fire Country is currently available for streaming on Paramount+.
