Many excellent TV shows don’t hit their stride immediately, needing time to find their footing. Some start strong but lose quality over time, drifting away from what initially made them good. We’re highlighting a different kind of Netflix show, though – the truly exceptional ones that remain consistently excellent throughout their entire run, with no weak seasons.

Fortunately, Netflix delivers with “The Perfect Couple,” a new mystery miniseries featuring a stellar cast including Nicole Kidman, Dakota Fanning, Meghann Fahy (known from Season 2 of “The White Lotus”), Eve Hewson, Liev Schreiber, and Sam Nivola (who appeared in Season 3 of “The White Lotus”). While reviews for the series, based on the Elin Hilderbrand novel, were mixed, it’s a surprisingly compelling murder mystery from 2024 that deserves another look.
Ridley Scott, known for both historical epics and science fiction classics like Alien, directed The Last Duel. It’s a retelling of a true story, structured similarly to the film Rashomon, focusing on differing accounts of the same event – in this case, a dispute between knights. Despite not doing well in theaters, it’s still a movie worth checking out.
Viewers have noticed that the episodes of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms are much shorter than those in the original Game of Thrones series. The first episode was only 41 minutes long, and the second was even shorter at 34 minutes. According to Winter Is Coming, the rest of the season’s episodes will also fall between 30 and 40 minutes, a significant decrease from the hour-long episodes fans are used to seeing in Game of Thrones.

Boston, who’s done some cool work before – she wrote for Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities and was a story editor on Hunters. Apparently, the idea behind it is like a horror take on getting married, which sounds amazing and totally up my alley.
Paul Feig’s film, The Housemaid, has been a huge success, earning almost $295 million globally with a production budget of under $50 million (according to The Numbers). The movie is a psychological thriller starring Sydney Sweeney as a young woman with a difficult history who becomes a live-in housekeeper for a rich couple. Her relationship with the wife of the house, played by Amanda Seyfried, quickly becomes risky and unsettling.
Filming for The Weight took place over six weeks in the Bavarian Forest of Germany, which served as a stand-in for Oregon. Ethan Hawke told Entertainment Weekly it was “one of the hardest summers of [his] life.” He explained that while the movie doesn’t have a lot of traditional action, it was incredibly draining, especially just worrying about ticks while filming in the water and woods.
