Bradley Cooper & Dave Bautista Set Guardians Of The Galaxy Reunion In Bong Joon Ho’s New Movie Ally

Two stars from the movie Guardians of the Galaxy are going to work together again on a new project, and the acclaimed director of Parasite, Bong Joon Ho, will be at the helm.

Bradley Cooper and Dave Bautista, who famously voiced Rocket and Drax in the Guardians of the Galaxy films and other Marvel projects, are now lending their voices to a new animated movie directed by Academy Award-winning director Bong Joon-ho.

Bradley Cooper and Dave Bautista are joining the voice cast of Bong Joon-ho’s new animated film, Ally, according to The Hollywood Reporter. They’ll be working alongside stars like Ayo Edebiri, Finn Wolfhard, Rachel House, and Werner Herzog, plus newcomer Alex Jayne Go. Bong hopes to finish the movie in early 2027, with a planned theatrical release later that year.

The movie Ally, set in the South Pacific, tells the story of a unique pig squid who travels from the deep ocean to the surface after a mysterious plane crashes into her home. While it’s rumored that Go will voice the main character, Ally, details about other cast members and their roles haven’t been revealed yet.

Bong Joon-ho’s next film will be an animated movie called Ally, following his 2025 release Mickey 17. Mickey 17 was based on the novel Mickey7 by Edward Ashton and starred Robert Pattinson, Naomie Ackie, and Steven Yeun. Ally is being produced by Neon, the same studio that worked with Bong on his critically acclaimed film Parasite in 2019 – the same year he first began developing Ally. Bong has also directed the American films Snowpiercer and Okja.

Both Bradley Cooper and Dave Bautista have experience with voice acting. Cooper famously voiced Rocket in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and also played Ice in the 2024 film IF. Bautista lent his voice to The Parakeet King in the English version of the 2023 movie The Boy and the Heron (alongside Robert Pattinson), and he’s set to voice Tagah in this year’s Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender.

Rocket and Drax are central figures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and have appeared together in several projects, including The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Thor: Love and Thunder. All three Guardians of the Galaxy movies, as well as the Holiday Special, were written and directed by James Gunn.

While Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 showed a new team led by Rocket, Marvel hasn’t said when they’ll appear in future movies. However, Bradley Cooper could definitely return as the voice of Rocket in future installments.

I was a little sad to see Dave Bautista finish his run as Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. It was cool that his character chose to stay on Knowhere and help Nebula with the rescued kids, though. Even though his time with Vin Diesel in the MCU is done, I’m glad they’re still teaming up on the project called Ally. It’s great to know they’ll still be working together!
