As the U.S. prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary, the Postal Service has asked Lauren to create a special series of stamps called “American Icons.” This is a first for the USPS – allowing one person to design an entire official stamp collection, blending practical postage with a celebration of American culture and heritage.
The “American Icons” collection beautifully showcases nostalgic imagery. It features 13 carefully chosen photos from Ralph Lauren’s personal collection and the visuals that have influenced his career. Twelve stamps around the border depict moments of American strength, practicality, and beauty. Notable items include Jackie Robinson’s well-worn baseball glove, a traditional Navajo blanket created by Naiomi Glasses, a classic pickup truck, and the iconic Empire State Building.
A prominent 13th-century-style stamp takes center stage, showcasing a photo of a flag knitted by Ralph Lauren. It includes the dates “1776 to 2026” and is bordered with blue denim. The Postal Service is also releasing a new U.S. Flag stamp for regular mail, which features a detailed close-up of the knit pattern from Lauren’s famous Flag Sweater.
Staying true to Ralph Lauren’s style, the designer is also releasing a small clothing collection to go with the new stamps. This collection, available worldwide on the day the stamps are unveiled, features a new version of the famous American Flag Sweater, a classic Polo Shirt, and a well-made Ball Cap.
The “American Icons” project beautifully combines the 250-year history of the U.S. Postal Service with Ralph Lauren’s classic American style, honoring the nation’s past. Whether you collect stamps or love fashion, this unique partnership offers something for everyone.
