Ariana Grande announces highly anticipated new album, ‘Petal’

Thank u, onto the next album.

Ariana Grande announced on Tuesday that her eighth studio album, titled “Petal,” will come out on July 31st. She shared the news on Instagram after giving fans hints and glimpses of her working on the album in the studio over the past few months. The announcement included the album cover: a black-and-white photo of Grande smiling, with some of her hair falling across her face.

In an April Instagram video, Grande explained that her new album is about finding joy and strength even while going through difficult times.

Ariana Grande and Ilya Salmanzadeh oversaw the album’s creation and songwriting. Salmanzadeh, a producer originally from Iran and Sweden, previously collaborated with Grande on her albums “Sweetener,” “Thank U, Next,” and “Eternal Sunshine.”

Ariana Grande’s last album, “Eternal Sunshine,” came out in March 2024. She shared that filming the movies “Wicked” and “Wicked: For Good” was physically demanding, so she needed time off from making music.

Review

The first one was a candy-colored slog, but ‘Wicked: For Good’ is pleasantly sour

While the movie is fast-paced and visually busy, Jon M. Chu’s sequel to “Wicked” truly shines when it focuses on the incredible performances of Cynthia Erivo and the funny, charming Ariana Grande.

Ariana Grande revealed to Variety that filming was incredibly intense, with the crew often shooting scenes for two different movies in a single day. She described each day as being particularly significant due to the fast pace.

In July, Ariana Grande also reassured her fans, known as Arianators, in an Instagram post, explaining it would be illogical to think she was giving up music just because she had a lot going on.

Grande shared that while the final result isn’t quite what she initially envisioned, she actually likes it even more. She’s enjoying the process and feeling thankful, energized, and creatively motivated. She’s also successfully juggling multiple projects and pursuing them independently, finding a good balance that works for her.

Ariana Grande received an Academy Award nomination for her role as Glinda in “Wicked” and was also nominated for several Actor Awards for both the movie and its follow-up. Earlier this year, she won a Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Defying Gravity,” which she performed with her co-star Cynthia Erivo.

Ariana Grande’s new album, “Petal,” will be released while she’s on her Eternal Sunshine tour, starting in June. The tour is limited to just 10 cities, beginning on June 6th at the Oakland Arena. She’ll perform in Los Angeles later that month with two shows at both Crypto.com Arena and Kia Forum.

In November, Ariana Grande described her next tour as a final celebration of performing live, suggesting she plans to take a break from touring afterward.

She said on the “Good Hang With Amy Poehler” podcast that she’s really enthusiastic about this tour, but doesn’t expect to do something like it again anytime soon. Because of that, she’s determined to make it amazing – she sees it as a final, memorable experience.

Ariana Grande is capping off a busy year with a new movie, “Focker-in-Law,” which comes out in November. It’s the fourth film in the popular “Meet the Parents” series, starring Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller. Grande plays Olivia Jones, an FBI hostage negotiator who is in a relationship with someone from the Focker family. She described working on the film as “truly spectacular” in an interview with “Today” last year.

Grande said she’s admired everyone in the cast for as long as she can remember. Being able to work alongside them and create together was a lifelong dream.
