Swagger in question – Liam Gallagher’s take on Manic Street Preachers and Suede

Manic Street Preachers and Suede are hitting the road together again in 2026, marking their fourth joint tour and the third time they’ve toured together this decade. While it seems like a successful and friendly pairing for both bands, Liam Gallagher of Oasis has publicly voiced his disapproval on social media.

When a fan asked what Oasis singer Liam Gallagher thought of the new UK tour by another band, he responded with a scathing critique. He said they dressed like real estate agents and challenged them to bring their best, adding that they were both terrible and lacked any coolness or flair.

Gallagher is entitled to his opinions, but many people would likely disagree with them. It’s also curious why he’s expressing such strong dislike now, decades after Suede and Oasis – bands widely considered Britpop icons – first became popular.

Oasis’s Liam Gallagher takes the low road when it comes to Manic Street Preachers and Suede

Although some people associate the Manic Street Preachers with Britpop, most agree their sound was distinct. Starting with punk influences, their music developed into something quite different, and they never really fit the Britpop mold.

Despite Noel Gallagher’s claim that the band lacked confidence and flair, history has proven him wrong. His comments sound like typical rivalry from 1994, when Oasis was an up-and-coming group trying to establish itself by putting others down.

There’s no point in discussing that now. Oasis achieved massive success – they became Britain’s biggest band, still attract large crowds on tour, and will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2026. While they weren’t focused on being considered ‘classic,’ it feels strange to criticize bands Oasis wouldn’t have considered their peers.

Oasis and Manic Street Preachers toured together once, though the tour was cut short because Oasis canceled their shows, not the Manics. Despite this, it seems likely that Liam Gallagher and the members of Manic Street Preachers – James Dean Bradfield, Nicky Wire, and Sean Moore – eventually had a good relationship.

It’s possible Noel Gallagher was just teasing fans with his comments. He probably doesn’t mind if people take his posts on X too seriously. Hopefully, bands like Manic Street Preachers and Suede – who have a more traditional rivalry with Oasis – aren’t bothered by what he says. All these bands are fantastic, and many fans enjoy them all.
