Story Highlights
- Angry Birds Rush returns in early access on Android and iOS in Mexico.
- Game now listed under Rovio Entertainment directly instead of Dark Matter Gaming.
The mobile game Angry Birds Rush has quietly reappeared, this time as an early access release on Android and iOS, but only in Mexico. This launch differs from the previous early access version, which was limited to the United States.
Okay, so this is a little weird. I remember seeing this game listed under Dark Matter Gaming, which I knew was part of Rovio, but now it looks like Rovio Entertainment themselves are publishing it directly. They even changed the link on the Play Store, and the page for the US early access is just…gone. It’s like they’re trying to distance it from that other division or something.
These changes suggest some behind-the-scenes work has been done on the project. While there hasn’t been an official announcement, it’s possible the development team is different this time. It appears the project is now more closely managed by Rovio.
Angry Birds Rush gameplay mixes slingshot mechanics with an endless runner
Unlike the original Angry Birds, which used a slingshot to launch birds, Angry Birds Rush is an endless runner – or more accurately, an endless flyer. Gameplay is fast-paced and designed for short bursts.
Send your bird soaring and steer it while it’s flying, demolishing buildings and gathering items to create awesome chain reactions. You’ll travel through time, destroying everything from ancient temples and quaint villages to bustling modern cities.
This game takes a slightly different approach to progress. After each run, the coins you earn are used to upgrade your camp. While the initial early access version in the US didn’t have custom voiceovers for the bird characters, the game was still under development, so we hope those will be added soon.
Currently, Angry Birds Rush is only playable in Mexico through the Google Play Store and App Store. There’s no word yet on when it might be available in other countries, so players outside of Mexico will have to be patient.
