AI Agents Get Their Own Mall? x402 Says “Why Not?”

So, Coinbase-backed x402 decided to throw a party for AI agents and called it Agentic.market. Because, you know, what AI really needs is a place to shop. For services. Online. Groundbreaking.

  • x402 launched Agentic.market, a one-stop shop for AI agents to find, access, and pay for stuff. Because apparently, AI agents were tired of swiping left on incompatible services.
  • The platform comes with human browsing tools and agent-facing integrations. No more API key headaches. Unless you’re into that sort of thing.
  • Big names like Google, Microsoft, AWS, Visa, and Stripe are on board. Because nothing says “we’re serious” like a tech giant endorsement.

Apparently, this launch adds a “discovery layer” to the protocol. Which is just a fancy way of saying it’s a glorified search bar for AI agents. But hey, who am I to judge?

Coinbase’s Nick Prince says it’s like a storefront where users can discover, compare, and use services. You know, like Amazon, but for AI. Because AI agents were clearly struggling to find CoinGecko on their own.

AI Agents Were Lost? Not Anymore, I Guess

Prince claims the platform fixes a gap in the AI agent market. Because apparently, AI agents were relying on whispers and rumors to find services. Who knew they were so old-school?

The marketplace includes gems like CoinGecko, Google Flights, and X. Plus, it’s got a web interface for humans and a programming layer for AI agents. Because AI agents need their own space to browse, I guess.

x402 launched in May 2025, letting AI agents pay with stablecoins. Named after the HTTP status code “402 Payment Required.” Because nothing says “innovation” like referencing a rarely used error code.

Prince says the platform gives AI agents “skills” and a wallet. So now they can buy and sell services. Basically, AI agents are becoming freelancers. Great, more competition.

Tech Giants Pile On Because Why Not?

Google, Microsoft, AWS, and a bunch of others are backing the x402 Foundation. Because if there’s one thing tech giants love, it’s jumping on a bandwagon. American Express, Mastercard, Visa, and others are also in. Payments are the new black, I guess.

“There will be more AI agents transacting online than humans very soon,” said Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong. Because nothing screams “future” like AI agents buying stuff we don’t need.

Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire predicts “billions of AI agents” transacting on blockchains in a few years. So, Agentic.market is just x402’s way of getting in on the action. Smart, I suppose.
