The CBS comedy series DMV first aired on October 13, 2025, and ran for 18 episodes until May 11, 2026, leaving some viewers curious about a potential second season. The show is a workplace comedy that follows the lives of employees at the East Hollywood Department of Motor Vehicles, showcasing their everyday challenges, office relationships, and interactions with frustrated customers.

Harriet Dyer plays Colette, a driving examiner who genuinely wants to brighten people’s days. However, she struggles to set limits with test-takers who don’t appreciate her efforts, and with her colleagues, including a new coworker named Noa (Alex Tarrant), towards whom she’s starting to develop feelings.

The show also features performances by Tony Cavalero, Molly Kearney, Gigi Zumbado, and Tim Meadows. While it received a 65% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and, like many first seasons, has a few bumps, DMV delivers plenty of laughs and memorable characters. CBS Already Canceled DMV Ahead Of Season 2

Unfortunately, the show DMV was canceled by CBS before all the episodes of its first season could air, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The network announced on March 27, 2026, that both DMV and Watson—a series based on the Sherlock Holmes stories, focusing on Dr. John Watson as a doctor in Pittsburgh and starring Morris Chestnut—would be ending.

In April 2025, CBS ordered a full season of the new show DMV, quickly giving it the go-ahead for a complete run. This announcement came alongside CBS’s renewed commitment to popular shows like Marshals, George & Mandy’s First Marriage, Tracker, Ghosts, and Matlock, among others.

Why CBS Canceled DMV (Can It Still Be Saved)?

CBS hasn’t explained why it canceled DMV, but it likely came down to falling viewership and low ratings. While some viewers on sites like Reddit expressed slight disappointment, most weren’t surprised. The show was struggling to gain traction and wasn’t performing particularly well.

It’s common for sitcoms – and many traditional TV shows – to have a rocky start. Think about the first seasons of shows like The Office or Parks and Recreation; they don’t quite feel polished. It often takes creators a little while to really understand the direction of their show. DMV had a slow beginning, but it still had potential if it had been given more time to develop.

Many funny TV shows center around the quirky people who work together, and the show DMV had a lot of potential storylines it could have explored. Unfortunately, it seems unlikely we’ll ever see those stories come to life, and DMV will probably be another promising show that gets cancelled before its time.
