The legendary thrash metal band Anthrax has released 11 studio albums throughout their career, which began in the early 1980s. A significant portion of their work – five albums – came out between 1984 and 1990. While their last album, For All Kings, was released in 2016, fans can expect new music soon.
The band is finally releasing a new album, Cursum Perficio, on September 18th. The name comes from an inscription found at Marilyn Monroe’s final home. But don’t expect anything like a ballad – this is still Anthrax, so it’ll be their signature sound!
The band intended to begin work on their new album immediately after finishing their 2019 tour for For All Kings. However, the COVID-19 pandemic caused delays, and writing and recording were put on hold. As time passed and other commitments arose, the album took a backseat.
Anthrax announces release date of first album since 2016
When the new album finally comes out, every track is expected to be a standout. Drummer Charlie Benante shared on the Everblack podcast that unlike some albums with only a few good songs, this record is consistently strong from start to finish – each song is good enough to stand on its own.
Everyone has high hopes for the band’s new music, and their past work shows they consistently deliver energetic and well-crafted songs. While it’s unlikely to win a Grammy for Record of the Year – the Grammys rarely recognize thrash metal – it’s sure to be a great album.
Fortunately, millions of fans are excited about the group’s upcoming album and 2026 tour, and will likely purchase the album and attend the shows.
Anthrax starts touring on May 23rd in Athens, Greece, and will play shows across Europe throughout the summer. They’ll then come back to North America right before their new album comes out. You can find details and tickets for all shows on the band’s website.
