The Armoury and Naoya Hida & Co. recently released their third watch collaboration, the Type 4A‑2 “Floating Feathers.” This refined and graceful timepiece takes its design cues from natural elements and the stylish dials popular in the mid-1900s.

Created by Mark Cho of The Armoury and designer Elliot Hammer, this piece draws inspiration from classic bird-themed enamel dials, but reimagined with the intricate engraving skills of Naoya Hida. The result is a beautiful design featuring three finely engraved feathers on a textured silver dial, representing both delicate beauty and enduring style.

The watch dial is a stunning example of skilled artistry. Master engraver Keisuke Kano painstakingly hand-engraved each feather, creating realistic textures that gleam against the silver. Around the feather design are 60 tiny, hand-polished 18K yellow gold markers, carefully placed to form a delicate, jewel-like ring.

The watch displays time with solid gold hands that have sharp, defined edges, and a blue steel seconds hand featuring a unique, spoon-shaped counterweight. Its highly curved sapphire crystal, with anti-reflective coating on both sides, is reminiscent of classic acrylic windshields, blending traditional style with a modern design.

The “Floating Feathers” watch features a 36mm case crafted from 904L stainless steel, based on Naoya Hida’s Type 4 design. Its styling draws inspiration from the elegant watches of the 1960s, with distinctive lyre-shaped lugs and a compact 42.9mm distance between the lugs. It’s powered by the hand-wound Caliber 3020CS, which is built upon a modified ETA 7750 movement and displays only the time with a central seconds hand.

The Reference Type 4A-2 will be available for $33,000, but it’s a very limited edition – only 10 will be made in 2026, with delivery expected in 2027. If you’re interested, you can apply between May 17th and 20th, 2026, by completing a short questionnaire, either at the store or online.
