The R-rated crime thriller directed by Quentin Tarantino and starring Gary Oldman will be available to stream soon.
Quentin Tarantino, known for directing stylish and often violent films like Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, is teaming up with Gary Oldman, a famously versatile actor. Oldman is known for roles in the Harry Potter films, Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, and his Oscar-winning portrayal of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour. These two acclaimed talents are now joining forces for a new crime thriller that will be available to stream soon.
After more than thirty years, the cult classic True Romance is coming to Netflix in two weeks. This 1993 action film, directed by Tony Scott and written by Quentin Tarantino, tells the story of a comic book store employee who marries a call girl. They end up on the run from the mob after stealing cocaine from her possessive boyfriend (played by Gary Oldman) and trying to sell it in Hollywood.
After 33 years, the classic film True Romance will be available to stream on Netflix starting May 19th. Currently, it’s not available on any other streaming services, but you can rent or buy it online for as little as $3.99 on platforms like Prime Video.
Besides Gary Oldman’s memorable performance as the drug dealer Drexl Spivey, the film True Romance features a strong cast including Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette as the leads, supported by Dennis Hopper, Val Kilmer, Brad Pitt, Christopher Walken, and many other talented actors like Bronson Pinchot, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Rapaport, and James Gandolfini.
Critics loved True Romance, giving it a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. They especially praised Quentin Tarantino’s witty script and the movie’s quirky, energetic performances. The result is a fast-moving, funny, and violent action film that’s thoroughly enjoyable.
Despite not being a box office success – it earned only $12.6 million against a $12.5 million budget – True Romance was praised by critics for its sharp writing, memorable characters, and unique filmmaking style. Though often overlooked in discussions of Quentin Tarantino’s work because he only wrote the script (selling it to finance his debut film, Reservoir Dogs in 1992), True Romance still showcases many of Tarantino’s trademarks.
