Maggie Smith’s sons “deeply touched” by huge honour to the late “national treasure”

Nearly two years after the passing of Dame Maggie Smith at age 89, her incredible, seven-decade-long career in theatre, film, and television is being celebrated with a special honour at Shepperton Studios.

Shepperton Studios honored Maggie Smith’s incredible career by naming a stage after her. The unveiling was a small, private gathering with her sons, Toby Stephens and Christopher Larkin, and other close friends and family.

It really means a lot to us to get this recognition. Honestly, if our mum were here, she’d be so proud to have a stage named after her at Shepperton. She had some amazing memories there, and she loved the film industry so much – it was her whole life, really.

Maggie Smith frequently worked at Shepperton and Pinewood Studios throughout her career. She filmed iconic movies like The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (winning her first Oscar), The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne (earning her a BAFTA), Othello, The Secret Garden, and Gosford Park at these studios.

Pinewood Studios announced the naming of ‘The Maggie Smith Stage’ to honor the renowned actress Dame Maggie Smith, whom they consider a national treasure and one of the greatest actors of her time. The studio group highlighted her long-standing relationship with both Shepperton and Pinewood as a key reason for the tribute.
