HOKA and XLIM, a cutting-edge Korean brand known for its blend of fashion, art, and architecture, have teamed up on a new collaboration. They’ve reimagined the popular Mafate Speed 2 trail running shoe, combining its high-performance outdoor capabilities with a modern, street-style look. The design is inspired by how natural materials change over time, contrasting organic shapes with man-made structures. XLIM’s unique and experimental style is woven into HOKA’s functional design, resulting in a layered shoe with a striking, postmodern visual appeal.
This partnership goes beyond simply redesigning a shoe; it’s a deep look at how high-performance running shoes have evolved and what happens when different creative fields come together. According to Thomas Cykana, HOKA’s Senior Director of Global Collaboration, the Mafate Speed 2 blends advanced technology with real-world usability, and perfectly captures XLIM’s distinctive, modern style. The shoe’s textured upper is designed to look naturally worn, celebrating the shaping power of nature. Dohee Kim, founder and creative director of XLIM, sees this less as a typical collaboration and more as a shared exploration, where different viewpoints combine to create surprising ideas and add depth to the entire creative process.
I’m so excited about the new HOKA x XLIM Mafate Speed 2 collaboration! They’ve come up with some really cool colorways that everyone’s talking about. The “Black Charcoal” one is already out in Asia-Pacific, but luckily for the rest of us, the “Grey Foam” and “Peach Dust” colors are dropping worldwide on May 15th. Just a heads up, they’re limited edition, so you’ll need to snag them quickly from stores, online, or at select retailers. If you’re into the tech side of running shoes or just love a unique, modern look, you definitely don’t want to miss these – they’re perfect for both performance and everyday wear!
