Channel 5 is adding new TV films to its Play for Today series, including a medical drama that fans of The Pitt are sure to enjoy. The show stars Archie Panjabi – known from Doctor Who, Hijack, and the film Bend it Like Beckham – and Paul Kaye (Small Prophets). It’s been described as a ‘gripping’ drama that takes place during a single, intense night shift in a hospital.
The upcoming drama, The Quiet Hour, is a personal story focusing on Riya, a nurse portrayed by Panjabi, who is struggling with burnout, regret, and the weight of her past.
Paul Kaye will portray Fred, a fiery and outspoken character who lost a limb and quickly becomes a major source of conflict during the evening.
The story reveals Riya will face many difficulties during her shift, including a constant flow of critical situations – from patients in immediate danger to a serious medical mistake that almost results in a fatality. These events will start to break down her ability to stay calm and professional.
Okay, so I just read the description for this game, and it’s really hitting me. You play as Riya, and she’s dealing with a lot – some stuff from her past she can’t shake, and she’s really struggling to connect with her daughter. The game seems to be about her night unfolding, and it’s not going to be pretty. It’s about facing tough emotions, feeling completely drained, and seeing the everyday heroes – the people who keep the healthcare system going, even when they’re exhausted. It sounds super intense and real, honestly.
The drama has been written by Sarah Louise Madden, and directed by Margo Roe.
