Be warned, this contains spoilers for episode 3 of Widow’s Bay! In the latest episode, Tom (Matthew Rhys) encounters a terrifying new presence – the Sea Hag. The Apple TV+ horror-comedy kicks off with Tom succeeding in attracting tourists to the island, thanks to a positive review in the New York Times. Things are going well for the season, and Tom even connects with an attractive visitor celebrating a bachelorette party. But when Tom finds a strange, elderly woman wandering the streets at night, the show takes a decidedly spooky turn.
In the third episode of Widow’s Bay, Tom attempts to assist an elderly woman, but her strange actions quickly reveal she’s not who she seems. Before Tom can get away, she scratches his arm with a dirty fingernail. Rosemary then cheerfully informs him that he’s just encountered the Sea Hag, one of the infamous creatures said to inhabit Widow’s Bay.
After Tom has another frightening encounter with the hag during the first swim, Wyck (Stephen Root) explains more about what’s happening. An unsettling, yet strangely amusing, old sailor’s song reveals that anyone scratched by the Sea Hag is doomed. Tom is essentially promised to the monster, and once the scratch paralyzes him completely, she’ll appear and kill him by sitting on his face.
I was so relieved when, just as the Sea Hag was about to deliver what seemed like a fatal kiss, Wyck burst onto the scene! He shot her, and she just… exploded into water. It was incredible! Poor Tom was saved at the last moment, and it’s a little awkward considering he’d been making fun of the very man who rescued him. It definitely complicates things as Rhys’ story in Widow’s Bay unfolds, and I can’t wait to see what happens next!
What The Sea Hag Means For Tom & The Rest Of Widow’s Bay
Okay, so in episode 2 of Widow’s Bay, our protagonist, Tom, stumbled upon some seriously creepy stuff – things that should have clued him in that the local Wyck was right about the island’s dark history. But, stubborn as he is, he refused to face the truth and kept pushing ahead with his tourist venture. Now, after a genuinely terrifying encounter with the Sea Hag, he can’t deny it anymore. The myths are real, and everyone on Widow’s Bay is in serious danger. Honestly, it’s all starting to feel like Mayor Tom Loftis is directly responsible, and it’s a pretty gripping realization to have as a viewer.
Now, everyone is wondering what will happen in Widow’s Bay. As Wyck pointed out at the beginning of the story, the town has been quiet for a long time, but it’s now becoming active. We’ve already seen strange events like a fog that steals souls, spooky happenings – including a terrifying clown – at the Widow’s Bay Motel, and even a Sea Hag. The only chance to stop the next threat relies on the surprising team-up between Tom and Wyck, who need to figure out their next move to keep the people of Widow’s Bay safe.
So Was Tom’s Date A Trap From The Sea Hag?
In the third episode of Widow’s Bay, Tom quickly connected with a tourist named Marissa, but things didn’t go as planned. They went on a date, but Tom was already becoming convinced that the Sea Hag was a real danger. Rosemary and Wyck warned him that this monster was deceptive, similar to a siren. When Marissa started insisting on visiting Tom’s home, he became worried and suspicious.
Marissa arrived at Tom’s house as the effects of the Hag’s spell were starting to take hold, and that’s when Tom became more direct with his suspicions. He told her, “I know what you are,” and Marissa instantly seemed to disappear. The Hag showed up soon after, but we briefly saw Marissa getting back into her car with her friends from the bachelorette party. It turned out Marissa wasn’t involved with the Sea Hag at all, and Tom likely ruined any chance he had with her. However, considering how insistent Marissa had been even after Tom clearly rejected her, it might not be a huge loss.
What’s Going On With Reverend Bryce In Widow’s Bay Episode 3?
Reverend Bryce (Toby Huss) is a central figure in the third episode of Widow’s Bay. We first encountered him in episode two when the church bells unexpectedly started ringing. He discovered the bell was stuck and secured with old, rusty chains, which sparked his curiosity. Bryce then found an old letter in the church archives outlining a procedure to follow if the bell ever rings, and while the show hasn’t revealed what that procedure is, it clearly suggests something bad is about to happen.
In the third episode, Reverend Bryce starts to unravel. He explores the island and finds an odd stone well hidden in the woods of Widow’s Bay. Looking inside, the audience is reminded of the underground chambers beneath the island—the same ones that held the mysterious chair and cellar door from the first episode of Widow’s Bay. When Reverend Bryce sees Evan (Kingston Rumi Southwick) and his friends again, he seems lost and warns them, “There is evil here.“
Something Has Gone Very Wrong At Patricia’s Sunset Cocktails
The third episode of Apple TV+’s Widow’s Bay ends on a cliffhanger. While Tom was busy confronting the Sea Hag, he missed Patricia’s cocktail party. That might be lucky, because the episode closes with Sheriff Bechir urgently calling for backup, desperately telling his officers to rush to the party—he doesn’t know what’s happening, but it’s clearly an emergency.
Now that the Sea Hag has appeared, it’s anyone’s guess what terrifying supernatural event will happen next. It could be a ghost, a monster, or something else entirely. With Tom finally admitting the island is full of horrors, episode 4 of Widow’s Bay promises to be a really gripping experience.
