Prime Video’s Reacher is a truly captivating crime thriller that’s hard to stop watching. While the show occasionally pushes the boundaries of believability and veers into illogical territory, this often surprisingly enhances its entertainment value.
Jack Reacher often feels less like a realistic detective and more like an exceptionally strong action hero. The Prime Video series Reacher relies heavily on convenient coincidences to place Alan Ritchson’s character right in the heart of every unfolding mystery. The show sometimes stretches believability, as seen in a season 2 scene where Reacher triggers a car’s airbag simply by kicking the hood.
As a Reacher fan, I think this really adds to what makes the stories compelling – trouble just finds him, even when he’s trying to lay low. But honestly, sometimes the plot throws in details that are so out there, it makes you wonder how everything connects. It can stretch the believability a little, you know?
Similar to the Jack Reacher novels, the show aims to deliver a simple formula: a strong man takes down criminals and gets results. But sometimes, the plot becomes so illogical that it’s hard to ignore.
Reacher Walks Through A Hospital “In Disguise”
Honestly, Reacher’s attempt to disguise himself at the end of season two was pretty terrible – even worse than Clark Kent’s! He’s just so… noticeable. Being 6’5″ and built like a tank makes it incredibly hard to blend in, and even with a hospital uniform and a mask, he stuck out like a sore thumb. There’s no way he could have really gone ‘invisible’ in broad daylight!
In season 2, Reacher surprisingly moves through a hospital undetected, simply by disguising himself in a nurse’s uniform and mask. He manages to eliminate several threats within the hospital without anyone noticing. The most unbelievable part is how easily he finds a staff uniform that fits him perfectly.
Hospitals are secure places, and someone as big and noticeable as Reacher would stand out. It’s funny, then, that nobody realizes he’s there until it’s already caused a problem.
The Driver Carrying Missiles Stopping To Help Another Vehicle
A particularly strange scene in season 2 of Reacher involves a truck driver carrying dangerous missiles who inexplicably decides to be a helpful citizen. He abandons his truck and its important cargo to assist someone he encounters on the road, completely ignoring his duties.
Anyone carrying high-level military weapons would be taught to avoid stopping for unexpected problems on the road, particularly if it looks like a trap. It’s also unusual that his truck doesn’t have a security detail.
Xavier Quinn Somehow Survives
Season 3 of Reacher shows flashbacks of Jack Reacher shooting Quinn, who then fell into a ravine – an accident he shouldn’t have survived. However, Reacher later discovers Quinn is not only alive but is continuing his criminal activities. Surprisingly, Quinn appears unharmed by his previous encounter with Reacher and conveniently has no memory of it.
It was honestly pretty funny – right at the very end of Reacher season 3, when Jack Reacher had his gun pointed at Quinn, all of Quinn’s memories just came back right before… well, you know. That kind of thing happened a lot with their whole rivalry this season – things just conveniently worked out for the plot. And honestly? It made the show even more fun to watch, even if it was a little crazy.
Security Cameras In Zachary Beck’s Home Never Capture Reacher
The show highlights that all of Zachary Beck’s security cameras face the front gate. This conveniently lets Reacher move freely around the property at night and re-enter without being noticed. Considering the serious and unlawful activities happening inside, it’s odd that Beck and his security didn’t monitor the area inside the gate as well.
During the third season of Reacher, Beck discovers someone posing as a maid was actually a spy. This should have been a wake-up call for him to ensure the security cameras were actively monitoring the inside of his home. However, the camera system remained unchanged, allowing Reacher to move freely in and out undetected.
Reacher Looks Like A Professional Bodybuilder & Even Gets Bigger
Jack Reacher travels light, carrying only a small, folding toothbrush. Given his minimalist lifestyle, it seems unlikely he’d spend time and money on a gym membership. However, each season of the show, he appears even more physically imposing. And rather than just being large, he consistently looks incredibly lean and muscular whenever he’s shown without a shirt.
This compares the physical build of Alan Ritchson, who plays Jack Reacher, to how the character is described in the original Jack Reacher novels.
| Name | Alan Ritchson | Jack Reacher (in the books) |
| Height | 6’3″ | 6’5″ |
| Weight | 235–240 lbs (106–108 kg) | 220–250 lbs (100–113 kg) |
Jack Reacher is incredibly fit, but unlike most people, he doesn’t seem to achieve it through exercise or a special diet. This lack of conventional training is likely one of the things that contributes to his almost unbelievable abilities.
You won’t believe how over-the-top the books get! In one, Tripwire, Jack Reacher literally spends a summer digging swimming pools, and it builds his chest muscles up to the point where a bullet stops when it hits him. Seriously, it’s ridiculous – and I love it!
Reacher’s Trail Of Blood Goes Unnoticed Even In The Smallest Towns
As a huge action fan, I’ve always loved the idea of Jack Reacher – this total phantom who drifts into town, takes out the truly awful people, and vanishes before anyone can ask questions. He’s supposed to be a ghost, a force for justice operating completely under the radar. But honestly, after watching him dispatch over a dozen villains across three seasons, it stretches belief that nobody has noticed this incredibly effective, if brutal, one-man army. It feels like it’s only a matter of time before someone starts connecting the dots!
It’s strange that in the main Jack Reacher novels, no one ever seems to connect all the people he’s eliminated as he travels around. However, a separate series of books by Diane Capri focuses on FBI agents specifically trying to catch Reacher by investigating the aftermath of his actions.
Capri’s Hunt for Reacher books are essentially a side story to Lee Child’s Jack Reacher series, focusing on how Reacher’s actions attract the attention of the police.
Dominique Kohl’s Death Was Easily Avoidable
Even though Reacher knew Quinn was dangerous, he unexpectedly sent just two people to arrest him. He could have sent a whole team of heavily armed professionals, with Dominique Kohl leading the charge and getting all the recognition. Instead, he foolishly sent Kohl with only one backup person, thinking it would make her look better.
Jack Reacher is often compared to brilliant detectives like Sherlock Holmes, and Holmes was actually a major influence on Lee Child when creating the Jack Reacher series. Because of this, it feels unlikely that Reacher would misjudge someone dangerous like Xavier Quinn and allow Kohl to deal with him on her own.
Prime Video’s Reacher Forgot One Shot’s Events Have Already Happened
Early in season 2, when Reacher reconnects with Neagley, he remembers meeting James Barr a year earlier. This flashback reveals that the events of Lee Child’s One Shot took place between seasons 1 and 2, but without being shown on screen. It also hints that the show won’t adapt One Shot, probably because the story was already told in one of the Jack Reacher movies starring Tom Cruise.
Interestingly, the show itself creates a contradiction in season 2. When someone investigates Reacher’s background, they only find information about his activities in Margrave from the first season. The records indicate he simply disappeared after leaving the military. Considering the high-profile nature of the James Barr case – as seen in One Shot – it’s strange that it wouldn’t be documented anywhere.
Now that this has happened, it’s unclear if the events of One Shot have taken place in the Prime Video series. Although it still doesn’t seem likely that the Prime Video show Reacher will cover the books already adapted into movies, it’s become clear that the show isn’t afraid to change details from the original source material.
