Matthew Rhys, known for his role in Widow’s Bay, will star in the new BBC drama Dragon Slayers. The seven-part series will tell the story of Sir Harry Evans, the former editor of The Sunday Times, and Rhys will play him. We recently praised Rhys in a nearly perfect Apple TV thriller.
BBC Drama Director Lindsay Salt promises viewers a thrilling ride with each episode of Pete Bowker’s new six-part drama, describing them as captivating and impactful.
This series explores the work of Harry and his team at Insight, who the BBC credits with uncovering some of the most important stories in the UK.

The Harry’s Insight team fearlessly challenged powerful companies, the legal system, and even the government. They were dedicated to their readers and uncovering the truth, even when it was difficult or risky to do so.
This team tirelessly fought for justice, revealing the truth behind major scandals. They exposed the cover-ups surrounding the Thalidomide tragedy, investigated the causes of the devastating DC-10 plane crash, and bravely revealed Kim Philby as a highly effective spy, even when it meant facing accusations of treason.
What to Read Next
The upcoming drama, according to the BBC, will be drawn from extensive research, published reports, and conversations with people who knew and worked with Harry, including his wife, editor Tina Brown, and the Evans family.
Salt continued, explaining that “Dragon Slayers” is written with Pete Bowker’s characteristic humor and strong moral compass. The important investigations uncovered by Harry and his team remain as impactful today as they were when they originally happened. They’re also thrilled that the talented Matthew Rhys will play the role of Harry Evans.

The actor from The Beast in Me expressed his excitement about being cast in the show, saying in a statement that it’s an important time for stories like this one.
So, the writer, Bowker – you might know him, he’s won a BAFTA – was talking about the game, and he said it’s been a real honor and fun to tell the story of Harry Evans and the Insight team. It sounds like he really enjoyed working on it, which is awesome!
We couldn’t be happier to have Matthew as our lead actor. The entire team is dedicated to celebrating the incredible spirit, determination, and wit of the people this story is about. We believe this drama will encourage viewers to reconsider journalism and the often-criticized 1970s.
Dragon Slayers will air on BBC iPlayer and BBC One.
The latest issue of Living Legends, a beautifully illustrated 100-page tribute to Sir David Attenborough, is now available! You can purchase it at newsstands or online.
