Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni issue joint statement after settling long-running lawsuit

Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni have resolved their lawsuit related to the movie It Ends With Us. The agreement came just before the planned trial, where both actors were set to give evidence, as reported by BBC News.

Blake Lively, who both produced and starred in the film It Ends With Us, had accused her co-star and the film’s director, Justin Baldoni, of sexual harassment during filming. She also claimed he tried to damage her reputation online in response. Baldoni denied the allegations and initially sued Lively for defamation, but she then filed a countersuit.

Everyone involved with the movie It Ends With Us is proud of the final result. In a joint statement reported by Variety, the team expressed their commitment to raising awareness and making a real difference for survivors of domestic violence and all types of trauma.

We understand the recent process was difficult and that Ms. Lively’s concerns were valid. We are dedicated to maintaining workplaces that are fair and productive. We hope this resolution allows everyone involved – both in person and online – to move forward with respect and peace of mind.

In June 2025, a judge dismissed Baldoni’s defamation lawsuit, finding that both Lively and the New York Times – also named in the suit – were legally protected because of their involvement in and reporting on the legal proceedings.

The agreement follows a court decision where Judge Lewis Liman dismissed 10 of the 13 lawsuits filed by Lively, specifically all those concerning harassment, due to procedural issues. This left only three claims for a jury to consider: retaliation, assisting in retaliation, and a violation of the contract.

Afterward, Blake Lively’s lawyer, Sigrid McCawley, stated that Lively considers it the most important outcome that those responsible for the online attacks have been revealed and are now facing consequences for targeting other women as well.

Lively also shared a statement on Instagram explaining she didn’t want to file a lawsuit, but felt she had no choice due to the ongoing retaliation she’s experienced for requesting a safe and respectful workplace for herself and her colleagues.

I hope this court ruling encourages others to come forward, even when it’s incredibly difficult and upsetting.
