Perfect police drama with a “compelling” detective is streaming now on Netflix

The British crime thriller Prey is now streaming on Netflix, with both seasons available. The show originally ran on ITV from 2014 to 2015 and featured Rosie Cavaliero as Detective Sergeant Susan Reinhart.

Each season sees Reinhart investigating a different criminal case in the Manchester area.

In Season 1, John Simm plays DC Marcus Farrow, a well-regarded detective whose world is shattered when his ex-wife and son are killed.

With all the evidence pointing to him, Farrow goes on the run, determined to find the real killer.

Season 2 is focused on prison officer David Murdoch, played by Life on Mars actor Philip Glenister.

While taking prisoner Jules Hope to a hospital appointment, Murdoch gets a devastating phone call: his pregnant daughter, Lucy, has been kidnapped. He’s told he must do whatever the kidnappers demand if he wants to see her safe.

The cast of Prey features several well-known actors, including Benedict Wong from Doctor Strange, Heather Peace of EastEnders, Craig Parkinson known for Line of Duty, Adrian Edmondson, and Ralph Ineson, who starred in the Harry Potter films.

The first season of Prey has a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics have applauded it as a fresh and exciting take on detective stories.

Even though its basic storyline isn’t new, AV Club says Prey is a captivating and fast-paced show. This highlights how well-established themes can still be effective, and praises the actor’s skill in bringing familiar ideas to life in a fresh way.

The San Francisco Chronicle praised Prey as a nearly flawless combination of well-developed characters and a genuinely suspenseful murder mystery.

I just read a review of the show, and the critic, ‘Uncle Bark,’ thought the episodes were pretty good – they kept him watching, even if they weren’t the most exciting things ever. He especially loved the actor playing the detective, saying he was really believable as a determined, stressed-out investigator.

The Daily Mail acknowledged that Prey wasn’t perfect, but ultimately concluded that it was compelling enough to leave viewers eager to watch the next episode.
