Cher’s bid for conservatorship of son Elijah Blue Allman is DENIED as he checks into treatment facility

A Los Angeles judge has prevented Cher from establishing a temporary conservatorship over her son, Elijah Blue Allman.

The singer, age 79, requested a court-appointed manager for Gregg Allman’s estate, but the request was denied for now. According to People magazine, this doesn’t necessarily mean she can’t ask again later.

Forty-nine-year-old Michael Allman appeared in court by video call from a psychiatric hospital on Friday. He is currently receiving treatment at the hospital to determine if he is mentally able to participate in legal proceedings related to two criminal cases in New Hampshire.

Cher has stated that her son is severely affected by ongoing issues with his mental health and substance abuse.

However, the judge said she did not see ‘sufficient urgency’ to grant the request.

The court also pointed out that, given his hospitalization and ongoing legal issues, it’s doubtful Allman could currently get money from the trust established by his late father, Gregg Allman.

Documents filed in court and obtained by the Daily Mail show that Gregg Allman opposed Cher’s effort to gain legal control over him through a conservatorship.

Oh my god, I just read this, and it’s heartbreaking. Elijah’s own brother, Devon, filed a statement saying he genuinely believes Elijah is in a really bad place right now. He’s worried Elijah can’t take care of himself, and that he’s not capable of handling his own money. It’s just… awful to see it put in writing like that. I’m so worried about him.

Visiting him recently was deeply upsetting, and it took me weeks to recover. Both his physical health and mental state were very poor, and he seemed disconnected from reality.

I had to negotiate a large drug debt – a five-figure sum – with a heroin dealer on his behalf, which was incredibly challenging. I felt I had to help to ensure his safety. It was obvious he owed this dealer far more money than he could actually pay.

I really think Elijah shouldn’t have access to money until he shows he’s serious about taking care of his health, both physically and mentally.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Cher and Allman’s representatives for comment.

According to court filings recently obtained by the Daily Mail, Cher stated her son’s condition has worsened considerably since she initially sought a conservatorship in 2023.

The singer described a frightening situation where Allman was discovered unresponsive in his car, blocking traffic. He was rushed to the hospital and given Narcan to revive him.

Cher also questioned Allman’s ability to handle money, stating he doesn’t understand finances, can’t manage his own money, and is easily taken advantage of financially.

Her son has a $18,000 debt to a drug dealer, and she had to borrow money from a friend to keep him safe.

Adding to his existing difficulties, Allman is also said to owe $200,000 in taxes, creating even more stress.

Court records show he owes a substantial amount of money due to damage he caused at several Airbnbs, such as cigarette burns and broken windows.

Cher alleges that Gregg Allman caused significant damage to an Airbnb rental and now owes $50,000 for repairs.

She also mentioned he’s been prohibited from staying at 18 hotels due to disruptive behavior, including yelling offensive language and acting strangely.

Okay, so I’ve been digging into everything about Gregg Allman, and honestly, it’s… complicated. I stumbled across this story that really shook me. Apparently, there was this incident at a hotel where he, like, trapped a young maid and… aggressively hit on her. It’s awful, and it’s hard to reconcile that with the music I love, but it’s something I feel like I need to acknowledge, even though it’s disturbing.

Recently, Allman has been dealing with legal problems, including several arrests in New Hampshire. He’s been charged with serious offenses like felony burglary, as well as crimes such as vandalism, simple assault, trespassing, and violating the terms of his release.

Cher requested that the judge appoint Jason Rubin as the temporary conservator of Allman’s estate.

She stated that Allman’s mental health had gotten much worse, and his drug use was at its peak.

Cher asked Rubin to manage Elijah’s problems so they could be addressed gradually, one at a time.

Cher is also a mother to Chaz Bono, age 57, from her marriage to the late Sonny Bono, in addition to her son, Elijah.

In February, Allman was arrested in New Hampshire for causing a disturbance and behaving aggressively at a private school.

On February 27th around 7 p.m., Concord Police responded to a call about someone causing a disruption in the school’s dining hall, according to TMZ.

Authorities responded after reports that a man, later identified as Allman, was behaving aggressively and acting confrontational.

Allman was arrested, booked, and then released without having to pay bail, according to reports. He is expected to appear in court at a later date for his arraignment.

Reports show Allman has no apparent connection to the school, and the reason for his presence on campus is currently unknown.

This event happened after a concerning health issue in June 2025, when Allman was hospitalized due to a drug overdose.

In 2014, Allman shared that he started using drugs, including marijuana and ecstasy, when he was only 11 years old, and recounted several dangerous experiences he had.

He explained to ET that he was simply trying to move past difficult experiences, and that’s what led him to use drugs like heroin and opioids.

He surprisingly admitted that heroin helped him cope with an incredibly difficult time. He explained that without it, he wasn’t sure he would have survived, suggesting he might have even considered suicide. He emphasized the importance of simply getting through that period and then seeking help.

In early 2024, a judge rejected Cher’s attempt to become the legal conservator for her son.

She asked a Los Angeles court to temporarily manage her son Elijah’s finances, explaining that his drug addiction and health problems prevent him from handling the $120,000 yearly income from his father’s trust.

Cher was worried he’d waste his $10,000 monthly payments on drugs and risk his health and safety.

Judge Jessica Uzcategui denied Cher’s request to become her father’s conservator. She explained that Cher’s lawyers didn’t properly inform her father, Allman, about the legal proceedings and wouldn’t provide him with necessary confidential case details.
