Oscar Isaac recently shared that the much-criticized line from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – “somehow Palpatine returned” – was added to the film very late in the production process. The 2019 movie, which concluded the sequel trilogy, received a lot of negative reactions, and that specific line was a frequent target of criticism.
Poe Dameron, played by Isaac, delivers this line with frustration, and many fans point to it as a sign of the film’s storytelling problems, especially regarding the unexpected return of a villain everyone believed was dead.
While talking to Josh Horowitz, the actor revealed the line was added after filming had initially wrapped. He jokingly said that when he watches the scene, he thinks the wig looks convincing, especially considering he’d already had a haircut before the reshoots.

He went on to describe those operations as quick, decisive actions that caught everyone off guard, causing a lot of confusion and hurried activity. He noted that this approach was a recent development and that the situation was constantly changing and unpredictable.
I honestly didn’t realize that line would become so memorable at the time,” Isaac explained with a laugh. “I definitely leaned into the frustration, though!”

As a Star Wars fan, it feels like things have really shifted. The Rise of Skywalker was the last movie we got for a while, and now Disney is putting a lot more effort into TV shows like The Mandalorian and Andor. It’s cool to see the universe expanding in that way, even if it’s not the big screen anymore.
This year, Star Wars is back in theaters with The Mandalorian and Grogu. The new film will follow Pedro Pascal as the Mandalorian and his companion Grogu as they work to protect the New Republic from remaining Imperial forces.

The Star Wars franchise is continuing with a new movie, Star Wars: Starfighter, featuring Ryan Gosling. Plus, a future film is in development that revisits Daisy Ridley’s character, Rey, fifteen years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker.
As a huge Star Wars fan, I was surprised to hear that Kathleen Kennedy is stepping down as President of Lucasfilm! She’s been a big part of the creative side for almost 14 years. But it’s cool to see Dave Filoni getting promoted – he’s a fantastic storyteller and will be co-President alongside Lynwen Brennan. It’s a big change, but I’m excited to see what they do with the franchise going forward.
Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker, recently told USA Today he’s thrilled with who’s taking over the series, saying Dave Filoni understands Star Wars incredibly well. Hamill noted that Filoni learned from George Lucas himself, so he’s familiar with Lucas’s creative vision.
You can now watch Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and all nine films in the Skywalker Saga on Disney+. They are also available for purchase on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K. Plus, The Mandalorian and Grogu will be released in movie theaters on May 22, 2026.
