Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 cast: Who voices those iconic characters in Netflix’s new spin-off?

Though the original Stranger Things series finished last year, the story continues! A new animated spin-off, Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, is now available on Netflix (starting April 23rd). It follows the beloved characters as they face fresh threats from the Upside Down and team up with some new allies.

This series takes place between seasons two and three of the original show. Eric Robles, who created Fanboy & Chum Chum, leads the production, with the Duffer Brothers acting as executive producers.

Although you’ll recognize the characters from Stranger Things, the original actors—like Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, and Sadie Sink—won’t be returning to voice them.

The characters will be voiced by a cast of young actors, chosen to match the ages of the characters as they appeared in 1985.

Robles explained to RadioTimes that the show’s creators wanted fresh, unscripted dialogue from a new group of young actors.

So who are the young actors tasked with taking on these now iconic characters?

Brooklyn Davey Norstedt will be the voice of Eleven. You might recognize her from the 2022 Apple TV miniseries WeCrashed, where she acted alongside Anne Hathaway and Jared Leto.

Benjamin Plessala, known for voicing Young Richter Belmont in Castlevania: Nocturne, will play the character of Will. He previously appeared in the series Big Little Lies.

Luca Diaz will provide the voice for Mike, building on his previous work in shows like Erin & Aaron, Migration, and Transformers: EarthSpark. Braxton Quinney will voice Dustin, and has previously appeared in You Can’t Take My Daughter and Bigger.

Elisha “EJ” Williams, known for playing the main character in the 2021-2023 ABC reboot of The Wonder Years, portrays Lucas.

Jolie Hoang-Rappaport will play Max, having starring in The Watchmen series as Bian.

Brett Gipson, known for his work on shows like Station 19 and S.W.A.T., will now play Hopper, taking over from David Harbour. Jeremy Jordan, a Tony Award nominee, provides the voice for Steve.

The show will introduce new characters, like Nikki, a transfer student, who will be voiced by Odessa A’zion, known for her role in Marty Supreme.

Janeane Garofalo, known for her role in Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, will play the mother of Nikki and a new biology teacher at Hawkins Middle School.

Robles shared with Tudum that a key idea for the new series was showing the characters simply enjoying adventures together, rather than focusing on world-saving stakes. They wanted to give viewers a chance to really get to know the characters as they experience these journeys.

Honestly, it’s been awesome watching these characters unravel a really big mystery, piece by piece. The coolest part for me was definitely the ability to literally freeze time and experience adventures with them that we’d never seen before in this world. That’s what really grabbed my attention and kept me hooked!
