ITV is bringing a new psychological thriller called The Only Suspect to screens. They describe it as a gripping and suspenseful story, and it stars Kevin McKidd, known for his roles in Grey’s Anatomy and the ITV detective show Six Four.
This drama is based on the popular novel by Louise Candlish and adapted for television by Simon Ashdown, who also wrote Our House. The network promises a thrilling story filled with Candlish’s signature unexpected twists and turns. It’s a captivating blend of emotional depth and suspense, contrasting two different time periods.
The novel The Only Suspect takes place in a London suburb and jumps between the present day and mid-1990s Camden, a vibrant and trendy area known as the peak of ‘Cool Britannia’.

So, the game follows Alex and Beth, this couple who seem totally perfect on the surface. But it quickly becomes clear there’s something really awful hidden beneath all that happiness. It’s a pretty heavy story, honestly.
The story begins in the hot summer of 1995 with a young man burying a body while a fierce storm rages. The identity of the victim and the reason for the killing are central mysteries, revealed gradually as the story jumps between the past and present.

Three decades after the initial discovery, a new heatwave is impacting a changed world. The old railway line, once the site where the body was found – and located behind Alex and Beth’s homes – is now being turned into a walking path, a project led by Beth. While this seems like a positive development for the community, it puts Alex in serious danger.
Alex is the man who buried the body. After living in hiding under a false identity for decades, his new life is falling apart. Now that construction is about to begin on the site where he hid the body, he’s forced to decide just how much he’ll do to keep his secret safe.
Everyone’s anticipating The Only Suspect, which is being called a suspenseful and unpredictable thriller when it’s released.
Kevin McKidd said he’s thrilled to be working with ITV on The Only Suspect, describing it as a comfortable and welcome project. He’s particularly excited about the complex character of Alex and looks forward to collaborating with director Farren, the team at Red Planet Pictures, and a talented cast of British actors.
Filming is expected to begin this spring.
