Netflix plans to buy historic Radford Studio Center

Netflix is talking with owners about purchasing the Radford Studio Center, a famous movie lot in Studio City.

As a huge movie and TV fan, I was really excited to hear that Netflix is planning to buy the historic studio lot in Los Angeles! Apparently, it’s where they filmed classics like “Gunsmoke” and even “Seinfeld” – can you believe it? I read about it, but the sources weren’t allowed to officially confirm the deal just yet.

Hackman Capital Partners has failed to repay a $1.1 billion loan for Radford Studio Center, and Goldman Sachs is now leading the effort to acquire the iconic studio property.

The studio’s previous owner, Hackman Capital Partners, stopped making payments on a $1.1 billion loan in January. Now, Goldman Sachs, an investment bank, controls the property and is negotiating a sale with Netflix for a price between $330 million and $400 million.

A spokesperson for Hackman didn’t offer a statement. Netflix, a major player in Hollywood, hasn’t yet responded to a request for comment.

In 2021, Hackman Capital Partners and Square Mile Capital Management jointly purchased the 55-acre Radford Avenue studio lot from ViacomCBS for $1.85 billion. They won the bid after a competitive process for the popular studio, which is a favorite in the television industry.

Mack Sennett, a famous comedian from the silent film era, started this studio lot in 1928. After World War II, it earned the nickname “Hit City” because it became home to many popular television shows, including classics like “Leave It to Beaver,” “Gilligan’s Island,” “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “The Bob Newhart Show,” and “Will & Grace.”
