Beverley Callard unexpectedly left “I’m A Celebrity South Africa” after becoming unwell in camp, and was visibly upset when she had to leave on Thursday night’s show.
The actress announced she wasn’t feeling well and, as a result, ITV has asked her to withdraw from the show.
Hi everyone, I wanted to let you know that I wasn’t feeling well and had a bit of a health issue. Because of it, I won’t be able to continue working here and I have to leave.
‘I’m absolutely gutted. I don’t want to go’.
Ashley Roberts comforted her, telling her to take care of herself and that they’d see her again in a few days.
Bev continued: ‘I don’t want this to finish. I wanted to prove that older women could do it’.
The campmates were stunned when she left, with Adam visibly upset and Scarlett Moffatt saying the camp just wouldn’t feel the same without her.
Bev said she had a wonderful time, even though she had to leave due to health reasons.
She described it as an unforgettable experience, praising the people she met as truly wonderful. Despite facing some hardships – being hungry and dirty – she said it was still a fantastic time.
Bev went on to say that this experience was far worse than 2020. She was happy she’d agreed to do it, even though she’d hesitated. She’d dealt with insect infestations before and wasn’t sure she wanted to go through that again.
I was also recovering from hip replacement surgery last time, which meant I had to avoid a lot of activities. It was frustrating, because I’m someone who likes to say yes to everything, and this time around, I felt capable of doing it all.
‘The sunshine and the climate changed everything. It completely knocked 2020 out of the park.’
Bev previously appeared on the twentieth season of the popular show, hosted by Ant and Dec, which was filmed at Gwrych Castle in Wales in 2020.
The star finished in fourth place with Giovanna Fletcher being crowned queen of the castle.
Beverley recently shared a health update following her breast cancer surgery, revealing the cancer had spread to a lymph node.
The beloved Coronation Street actress revealed she had been diagnosed with cancer in its early stages on February 6th. Just two weeks later, she had surgery to remove several lymph nodes as a preventative measure.
In a video posted to Instagram last week, she shared that although doctors were able to remove her cancer, it had unfortunately spread to other parts of her body.
After a difficult two-month wait for her test results, Beverley received good news from her doctor at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital: the surgery had been successful and they had removed the cancer.
The actress shared that everyone is happy with how the surgery went, and doctors also removed three lymph nodes.
She explained it like this: think of lymph nodes as a staircase. If cancer is present in them, it has a tendency to spread, moving up those stairs. It’s a simple way to understand it, though it’s not a complete explanation.
Beverley explained that the tests showed cancer in the first lymph node, but not in the others. She said it was present, but it appeared to be a small amount.
Oh my god, they’re sending the lymph node – the one with the cancer – all the way to America! Apparently, they need to figure out exactly how fast this thing is growing, how aggressive it is. I’m just on pins and needles waiting with Beverley, it’s going to be a few weeks before we know, and honestly, it feels like forever!
If the cancer is aggressive, I’ll need chemotherapy first, followed by radiation therapy.
If the cancer doesn’t appear to be spreading quickly, I’ll go ahead with the planned radiation treatment. For now, I just need to wait for the results and see what they show.
Beverley shared that she had mixed feelings about the results. She was happy the surgeries had gone well, but concerned because the issue had spread to her lymph nodes. She also expressed frustration with the continued waiting for further information.
And that’s where things stand, which I know many of you have probably experienced as well.
Earlier this month, Beverley shared that she’s struggling to feel positive because the results of her breast cancer surgery have been delayed due to a large number of cases waiting to be processed.
Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! My absolute favorite soap star just shared the most heartbreaking news. She’s been fighting an illness, and it all started right after she moved to Dublin to join the cast of Fair City! I’m just devastated for her, but so incredibly proud of her strength. It’s awful timing with the new job, but I know she’ll get through this. I’m sending her all my love!
